Plex Media Server 1.30.0.6359 - New Transcoder Preview

Anyone?

I’ve updated the links to point to a new build, now with version number 1.30.0.6359.

I’m not sure if this is an artifact of the new transcoder or a different issue. In the cases below all players are Roku with remote and local bandwidth set to original.

I have a 4K movie that has a very high bandwidth (107mbps according to the dashboard).
On remote plays this overwhelms everything very fast which forces a down scale. Normally, the NUC has no issues dropping this down to a 1080p transcode in hardware. I’ve had several of them going at once, no issues at all. Barely budges the CPU (no subtitles in play here). Recently however, it seems to pick the 720@4mbps profile which apparently isn’t an option for the hardware transcoder. Obviously this wrecks the CPU and everything goes sideways.

Thoughts?

Plex media server Hardware Transcoding broke when updating to version 1.30.0.6359 on NUC11.
Went back to version 1.29.2.6364 and all working again.

Running in VMWare 8 → Hardware PassThrough → Ubuntu 22.04 (OEM Kernel)-> Kubernetes 1.25 & intel-device-plugins-for-kubernetes v0.25.0

When I installed this version and played back a movie the audio would drop after about 5-7 minutes of the movie playing on a 2022 latest appleTv 4k (128GB). Downgrading the sever back to the latest public version solved the problem

FYI, current 1.30.x builds have an issue with pixelation of Live TV.

The problem does not exist in 1.29.2.

Haven’t seen any movement in here for a while, any status update for AV1 support?

If this was in response to my post, thanks for the link but that’s playback support and only for Plex for HTPC. Doesn’t help with transcoding at the server level for any other devices.

It’s in the pipeline, in an upcoming PMS release. As you know Plex won’t tell you when.

I’m fully aware. I was holding out a glimmer of hope that maybe it would be an easier feat now that it’s built into the latest ffmpeg.

Literally just needed to be patient for another day :P, thank you 1.30.1.6483.

I’m noticing it’s only decoding for AV1, is encoding in the pipeline?

After upgrading from Version 1.30.0.6442 hardware transcoding seems to be somewhat broken.
4K to 1080p works, 1080p to 720p works but a 1080p to e.g. a lower quality 1080p no longer triggers hardware transcoding.

Trancoding stops working for me too… 1.30.1.xxxx, 1.30.2.xxxx don’t work…

Tone mapping transcoding is broken for me on any versions above 1.28.0.5999

Same for me… I just bought a Synology NAS DS920+, I installed PMS into a docker container from linuxserver.io (1.31.2.6739) with plex pass, hw transcoding is working fine until I check tone mapping

@Ridley @ChuckPa @drzoidberg33 In case you didn’t see this, the new transcoder has pixelated Live TV when using hardware transcoding. I do not observe pixelation when playing static media files like movies and TV shows. I’m going to try and revert to 1.29.2.6364.

Other threads:

PMS v1.31.3.6819
Windows 2012 R2
Intel Xeon E-2285M @ 2.40 GHz
6 GB RAM (47% memory used)
HDHR5-4US (20230303 firmware)
Quadro P2200

Update: Confirmed that rolling back to 1.29.2.6364 resolves the Live TV pixelation issue with hardware acceleration.

Is this still not fixed? :sob: I haven’t updated our server yet and was going to look into this. It was reported in November. :sob::sob::sob:

I’ve sent a message to the Engineering team lead asking to discuss this in tomorrow’s meeting.

I’d reply again when I know more.
