Plex Media Server - Application Error - Windows 7

Ok, so I’ve searched high and low on this topic after reading the forum rules and thought a Ninja could better assist me. I’m a newbie to Plex, but not computers, as I’m a solutions engineer for a software company(hand in face now). Here’s my issue:

I recently upgraded my laptop(where I have my Plex server running on) to Windows 10. Encountered a number of issues and compatibility issues so i easily downgraded back to Windows 7 Pro. After downgrading back to Windows 7 Pro, only two applications fail to run - Plex Media Server being one of them. When attempting to open PMS, I receive the following error: The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b).

I was previously getting an error relating to a single dll file being missing - MSVCP100, but after installing that single file, extracting it and placing it into my SysWOW64 and System32 Windows folders, I now receive the above error. I downloaded the 32 bit version of Dependency Walker, opened Plex, and a number of dll files came up with yellow warnings on them. I then installed every single one of them, re-opened Plex and even more that weren’t shown originally showed up as warnings. I tried repairing the install through Control Panel and have completely uninstalled and reinstalled a number of times, but still nada. I have also re-downloaded and repaired MS Visual C++ 64 and 32 bit versions, but again still nada. I checked the Windows registry and the LocalAppDataPath looks correct. Here’s a screenshot below of what I see in Dependency Walker and I have no Crash Reports in my Plex folder, but 5 different .log files and I have attached the latest one here. If you need others, let me know. Thanks in advance Ninjas!

I’m NO windows guy but did you do a full wipe when you downgraded or just rolled back ?

And, perhaps the dumbest question of all, did you get ALL the updates in place before installing Plex?

All those references showing up as missing is screaming a corrupt windows registry to my uneducated eyes. It’s looking for files which don’t exist. Obvious question: WHY don’t they exist? Do they even belong ?

Microsoft has a ‘fix’ procedure listed: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_other-performance/msvcp100dll-missing/9a687c31-0619-4ee9-b511-020985e29b5f?auth=1

I ran the scan using Command Prompt but it didn’t come up with any missing or corrupted files.

per my other questions, I’m just being thorough because I’ve caught myself too.

Updates done?
Runtime libraries recommended by the Microsoft page installed?
Infamous reboot after installation?
Both methods still come up “nada”?

I don’t know how to go further. One of the windows guys will step up next around.

Updates done.
Runtime libraries updated.
Rebooted multiple times
Everything comes up nada.

Thanks for the help. Hopefully a Windows Ninja can help out.

I’m surprised by the lack of interest by the Ninjas to help resolve the issue. Is there a Plex support number I can speak with regarding my issue because this forum is obviously stale.

I would uninstall Plex Server, reboot, uninstall any Visual C++ packages you’ve installed (and delete any files you placed in system32 or syswow64, because if they are the wrong versions they won’t be overwritten - the installer will leave them which will cause things not to work), reboot, and then download and install the latest Plex Server software.

Yeah, this looks like you did a downgrade rather than a re-install. I can’t think of any reason why else files would be ‘missing’ unless Plex thinks something is there that was and now isn’t. If you didn’t do a fresh install of Windows, do a fresh install first i.e. back up your Plex data and format your hard drive. You ‘might’ be able to get away with re-installing all drivers, video, direct X libraries etc etc but I wouldn’t go there. Windows is pretty unforgiving for such things. Then I’d do a blank install of Plex and import the database only from your backup. That should solve it.

I’m a Linux guy. I’ve been doing Unix/Linux since MS was coding BASIC interpreters for other companies.

I’m unfortunately not a Windows guy. There is little I know beyond a user. I have it in a VM to use ‘as needed’ for creating artwork.

VERY sorry I don’t have the skills and nobody else has stepped up.

Since my last. General consensus is:

More effort has been put into fixing it than it would take to start over.

Therefore, it is recommended you start again with Plex. If you can’t get it to work as a fresh install, you need to take the deeper look at reloading windows.
