Server Version#: 1.18.7.2457
Player Version#:7.29.1.16015
Like the title says. The plex server is running on a Nuc 8 with windows 10 installed. I use remote desktop to access the machine. I found some post from 2019 that talk about hardware transcoding and remote desktop access having a bug but that was apparently addressed.
Same problem also for me. I update today the server version (1.18.7.2457) and after this server crash every 5 minutes. Server installed on NUC 7 and windows 10 version1909
Thanks
I think I know what the problem is. There is an issue with windows remote desktop and hardware transcoding. I presume that you also use remote desktop to access your machine.
I am currently trying to find a workaround using TeamViewer or real VNC. From what I have read, if you don’t start the remote desktop process it works fine.
Plex should really fix this bug seeing as it has been around for at least a year. I’m not sure if anyone from plex has addressed it.
It isn’t really a Plex bug, Microsoft had to tighten up security for access to processes running in Session 0. Initially it was running Plex as a Service that was unable to use HW acceleration and lately expanded to RDP access. If initial startup is done with Keyboard/Mouse and Monitor attached, RDP later is no problem.
There is also an Intel iHD driver issue that if you are not running the right version crashes in a DLL.
But if PMS crashes then it is a plex bug. It doesn’t try to use CPU encoding if HW encoding fails, it just crashes and doesn’t tell you why. You basically can’t use plex HW transcoding headless with RDP as far as I can tell.
