Plex Media Server crashing intermittently on Synology DSM 7

For the past few weeks Plex Media Server has been intermittently crashing. Can be multiple times a day, or be fine for a couple of days. (Doesn’t seem to be on a particular schedule).

When I say crashing, we’ll just go to use it and it will require me to start the app again as it’s not running. (Then it will be a few minutes before the Chromecast app establishes communication).

Have done a decent search of the forums, and can’t see anything that particularly matches.
Did the ‘Plex Dance’ that I found, hasn’t fixed.

App running on a Synology DS218Play running DSM 7.0.1-42218

Figured that memory was an obvious candidate given it’s only got 1GB - but can’t see anything that indicates that specifically. Nothing in the Synology logs suggests that.

Have attached debug logs - any thoughts?

100% what I’m experiencing too, ds918+ latest DSM latest Plex version (on phone so can’t pull numbers)

Same thing happening on my DS920+ with 8GB RAM, just stops midway through a 1080P series.

I’m now running a docker instance so at least it can automatically restart if it crashes until this issue is fixed.

Oh interesting. Kinda good to know it’s not just me I guess.

Just noting that for me it’s never stopped in the middle of active use, just when someone goes to use it it’s sometimes just not running (which doesn’t make me very popular :slight_smile: ). But that could just be luck as well I suppose.

Same issue here. I have my Synology 918+ and then a friends 918+ that I help manage. Both running Plex media server. My friend’s seem’s to crash more frequently than mine, but I still experience the issue from time to time.

@ChuckPa, I have seen a few posts on this issue from the past year, but have not seen anything specific yet as to why this could be happening (unless I speed read right over one of the posts). Any ideas?

Just FYI - I ended up giving up, backup and reinstalling fresh a few weeks ago. (I meant to update this post at the time). Has been stable since.

Good to know. I was curious if a fresh install would fix it… Let me know if you experience the issue again.
I will test that out on mine before repeating on my friends.
