Plex Media Server Crashing On Library Scan

Server Version#:1.30.0.6486-629d58034
Player Version#:

The Media Server is crashing constantly on a Mac mini (2012) running latest Safari and updates. This happens during playback and when not in use.

Update: It appears to be every time the media scanner runs.

Not always, but more often then not, if the scanner is causing a crash of PMS, it is due to a really bad file. Check the end of your logs to see if any specific file is mentioned. Remove that file an see if the crash goes away.

Thanks for the reply. I exhausted all efforts including:

  • Scanning and fixing corrupt databases
  • Restoring backups (multiple)
  • Uninstalling and reinstalling
  • Reverting to an older build

I screen captured the library status as it scanned and the server crashed at different files each time. In the end I had to completely reinstall Mac OS and Plex.

I had the same issue, constant crashing. Turns out it was an audiobook folder that iTunes updated and was causing the crash. So once I removed the content from Plex I got it working fine. Unsure was it a corrupt iTunes music file causing the issue, but would be nice if better error handling in Plex in the future instead of crashing.

Can’t figure out how to download folders for my Plex server on the shield I already have one plus server on mini PC trying to get the same folders in shield server Android TV not sure how to do it very frustrated

See https://support.plex.tv/articles/201643703-reporting-issues-with-plex-media-server/ for ensuring server debug logging is enabled. If it was disabled, please restart the server after enabling so that fresh logs get created

and after a crash restart the server and download the server logs and attach
