Server Version 1.29, 1.28, and 1.27 all crash on my Mac daily. I get no error code or report. All my crash logs are empty. The media server just closes randomly. It’s been an issue since August 2022.
2021 M1 Mac running macOS 12.6
I tried uploading my crash logs, but it’s just empty folders. Any help is greatly appreciated.
That’s has to be frustrating. Have you put the server into debug mode?
PMS is made of about 12 sub programs at the moment, one of which is Plex Media Server but you may have seen ones like Plex Media Scanner also. When you say it’s crashed, please open a terminal and give the command
pgrep 'Plex Media Server'
If it responds with a number, then the server process is still running. I’m not sure a crash log is generated under those conditions. If it returns nothing, then PMS is not running. Before you restart PMS again, look in your ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Crash Reports/ to see if there are any reports.
Please create fresh logs of this today.
restart the Mac,
run PMS and let it idle until it crashes,
If you can still reach it, use Settings → Troubleshooting → Download Logs
If you can’t reach it because it crashed, zip up the logs in a terminal with
cd ~/Downloads && zip -rj "Plex Media Server Logs-$(date '+%Y-%m-%d_%H-%M-%S')" ~/Library/Logs/"Plex Media Server"
It puts a zip of the logs into your Downloads. Please drop that into your reply, thanks.
I’ve had similar issues these past few days on my Mac server. I tracked it down to an issue with the Ad Detection. Whenever a recording completed (using HD Homerun) and it started to do some ad detection, the server would just close with no warning. Turning ad detection off and it has been up for 24 hours without issue.
Thank you for the help! I went back to version 1.25 and so far no issues, but I do want to update. I’ll wait for an update and then then turn off ad detection to be safe.
UPDATED: I don’t know why, but PMS automatically updated and now I’m having the same issues. I posted on a new thread because this one has been locked.
