Plex Media Server crashing when opening Android mobile app and selecting a library

If you guys are interested I found a work around while they fix this issue, I run an app called “restart on crash”, and set it to restart the service when it crashes and works like a charm.

really easy to set up, just make shure to start as administrator.
Place the app in your %AppData% folder and configure to start on init

That doesn’t apply much to the original issue here on linux, but could be useful for the windows folks.

I came here looking for a solution and what worked for me was to clear the ‘App data and cache’. You can do this by going to ‘Settings’ → ‘Apps’ → ‘Storage’ → ‘Clear Data’.

I ‘Force stopped’ the plex app, deleted app data and cache. Uninstalled, reinstalled plex app (Overkill, perhaps)
Everythings works great now.

This was happening on my Mi Box S. I did the above and it seems to have stopped.

Ok this is clearly a thing, I had problem with my Plex servers in the last few months, with it been unstable for no reason (with only a few people connected) and since I asked everyone using the Android app to uninstall / reinstall I don’t have the problem anymore.

Did the android team have any update on this? i suspect i still have a few users with Bugged Android versions and i have no mean to block it…

Yes. They are aware and have been working on it.

I only have an Nvidia Shield and it’s not displayed this problem.

I do know they have a new version in Beta (1.13.x ??)
I also know they are working on the next after that.

On the symptom side the first thing that stop working on the server when a faulty client is connected is the API. The dashboard and tautuli stop working.
Unfurtunatly nothing usefull on the logs…

This is frustrating. I ran the Nvidia Shield app all afternoon.

I just started it again… I just cannot reproduce this no matter how hard I try … this is 8.12.4 ; the ‘problematic’ one.

What do I need to do differently?

@ChuckPa :
Typically for me “Reset All Customizations” option on the Android app is enough to crash the server.

@ChaosBox

Thanks.

Tried.

No Joy :frowning:

I’m running PMS on Windows 10 and the Plex Player 8.13.1.23036 on Android 7.1.2.
The player app will crash every time I click on the X against a music track in the Now Playing window. It’s safe to press Pause then to select a different track to play just so long as I don’t try to stop the current track first by clicking X.
Clicking >I the next track button also works OK.

I’ve tried using Force Stop on the app and clearing Cache & Data before uninstall and reinstall but the present install is the best working I can get.

@gaultd

It sounds like you’re describing a Player problem .

This is a server thread.

Unfortunately, I can’t help with Windows and am very limited with Android (only have thte Shield)

Perhaps opening a “Android player crashes” thread and adjust the tagging to be Windows and not linux?
