Plex Media Server Crashing

could you get me the media info xml through Plex Web for this item
Star Wars Rebels - S3 E11 - Ghosts of Geonosis (1)

See https://support.plex.tv/articles/201998867-investigate-media-information-and-formats/

Could you also make that file available to me please to see if it is anything specific. I still need the metadata media info xml as per my previous post

Please zip the file and upload to google drive/dropbox etc and send me a link by private message

Thanks, I have sent you the info requested via PM.

An update after analyzing all the diagnostics provided (thank you):
There was a video that was in the library but when the video was last scanned, the database ended up with just subtitle streams identified and no video or audio streams. I suspect there is a bug in how that scenario was handled and led to the crash

A re-analyze of the media item has brought in the video and audio stream info and should stop the crashes that were caused by this file.

The issue has been referred to our development team

I’m seeing a server crash specifically with Live TV. The server is running Linux and has an Intel iGPU. The client is an Apple TV. It will work fine while viewing but when the client stops the stream, the server crashes. Transcoded or direct play seems to make no difference. This has happened on every 1.18.7 build so far, only solution for me has been to roll back to 1.18.6.2368. Both direct play and transcoded play of other content and content saved to DVR appears fine; it’s just Live TV that crashes. I’ve attached the crash dump and logs.
1.18.7.2438-f342a5a43.zip (67.3 KB)
Plex Media Server Logs_2020-02-19_09-44-36.zip (3.2 MB)

Plex server (MacOS) still crashing on 1.18.7.2438 for me, get about 5 minutes until I can’t access it locally anymore. Using Apple TV 4K as a player as well…

Back to 1.18.6.2368 until you figure this out…

I do not believe every issue is the same issue. If you can provide logs after the issue arises, then I can see what the issue is

Thanks. The crash appears to have been whilst handling a stop for a live tv session. I have referred it to the development team who are working on a fix following report of the problem in this forum topic Server hard crash backing out of live tv stream

good work sorry been busy but i just tried the newest plex version can confirm no crashes when opera based vizio tvs connect and play stuff off plex now fire stick 4k worked fine also.

I will have a development build for you this evening to add extra logging and also stop the crash - if you can recall the steps to bring in a crash then you. If,d dobthe sane and collect the logs

How do I get this build to test?

sorry I did not send it out last night because we actually found the bug round that time. I will send you a 1.18.8 alpha build

sent you 1.18.8.2461-03ad9abb4

Also getting crashes on Windows almost daily after a recent upgrade. The longest I’ve gone is about 3 days, then crashes again.

Uploading crash logs here:
Plex Media Server Logs_2020-03-23_19-29-08.zip (4.3 MB)

I checked and ensured that I have none of the DLLs mentioned as possible causes for crashes in the FAQ topic.

In the meantime, I’ll try to upgrade to the beta build.

Plex Media Server Logs_2020-03-23_19-58-54.zip (1.3 MB)

i’m having constant crashes, over and over and over, when accessing the server over chrome on windows 10. like every time a file starts playing it crashes. can anyone point me in the direction of a solution?

The dmp did not get uploaded. Could you look for dmp files within
C:\Users\idovg\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Crash Reports\1.18.8.2527-740d4c206\PLEX MEDIA SERVER directory and zip and send to me in a Private Message through the forum

I see the upload attempt failed with error 400. That normally is indicative of an empty dmp file - you will probably find that the dmp files are zero length in size

This tend to happen if the crash is due to heap corruptions or running out of memory

Lets see what windows event log shows and if it is a heap corruption. Open Event Viewer and select Application log and filter on event IDs 1000,1001 and see what Plex Media Server crashes got detected by windows

You are on the latest release - there is no beta

Would like to see more logs of crashes to compare

Thank you for the help! I sent the requested Crash data via PM.

I am also uploading a new log, taken today, after about 17 hours of operation since the last crash (last night around 9PM ET).

Plex Media Server Logs_2020-03-25_13-53-28.zip (3.7 MB)

For the windows Event Viewer filter, I assume this is done by creating a custom view? I attempted to do that with the following values, and the generated view gave an error saying there were too many entries or the filter was invalid.

EventViewer_Custom_View

It looks like you can import custom views, so if you can export one that would target what you’re looking for, I can import that and gather the data you’re requiring there.

The system has plenty of memory, so I doubt it’s an OOM issue, but memory can go bad, so maybe corruption is possible here.

Thanks again!

Thanks for sending the zipped dmp files. As I suspected the dmp files are empty - file size = 0 bytes

It is not going to be easy to fix these crashes blindly without dumps

Lets see if there are clues in the windows application event log - on type of crashes. And always update to latest version of Plex Media Server and we can see then if things change and if you get more logs of the crashes, I can see if there is a pattern of what activity before crashing

Just filter current view instead and the only change you make is typing 1000,1001 in the event ids field and then export the filtered view
