Plex Media Server doing unrequested sync conversions of songs in music library

Hi there,

I’m using Plex on Synology (intel 64 bit) Version 1.7.3.3937. This morning, I noticed the server’s status shows that Plex is doing sync conversions on a lot of music (that I didn’t request). Sync status shows nothing synced to my devices. Can someone help me figure out what’s going on?

Thanks,
tpat

Do you share with other people? did you allow them to sync in their share restriction settings? conversion shows all conversions no matter who is syncing . Sync status only shows your devices not theirs

Sync status only shows your devices not theirs

That explains it. Thanks!

I’m seeing a similar thing on latest beta on OS X for a bunch of movies that were added last week. The conversion page (under status) shows a queue of all the movies, and the activity icon shows a “1” looking like the server is streaming. In watching the queue it is very slow (2x-4x), and it is hogging cpu. Also, it is saying over an hour for each movie to complete. The conversion page Queue shows “sync”. All of my files and devices don’t need transcoding or optimized versions (all are mp4 containers w/h.264/AAC/AC3), so I didn’t request “Optimize” and I’m not syncing to any device right now anyway. I’ve never noticed this previously, and I don’t want Plex messing with the library media files themselves…which is my concern. There is nothing showing up on the “Optimized Versions” page, which makes me feel better, but I sure would like to know what is going on? Can anybody confirm (or not) that this is weekly maintenance creating chapter thumbnails or something similar? As I say, I’ve never seen this under the activity before…but I was up very early today and apparently this started during the 02:00am maint schedule time…
