Plex media server for Windows - delete logs

<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>

Hi

Is it safe just to go into the appropriate folder on PMS Windows and just delete log files?

I seem to have two folders (installer logs and PMS Plug in logs) plus loads of files some of which seem enormous and date back 10 years when i first tried Plex

Thanks

It is OK to delete the log files from the Plex Data Folder. Normally, they should rollover and delete the oldest versions.

  1. Stop Plex Media Server
  2. Navigate to the Logs directory in the Plex Data Folder
  3. Delete contents of Logs directory.
  4. Start Plex Media Server.

If you are looking to free up space, you might also check the Updates folder in the Plex Data Folder. Plex should keep the three most recent installed versions (in case you need to fall back to a prior release). If you’ve more than three versions, or just do not wish to keep them, it is OK to delete them as well.

Normal behavior for PMS log files:

  • The log files are capped at 10.5 MB each.
  • There are six of each file, the main log file and rollovers, .1 to .5 (default, can be changed).
  • When a log rolls over, the oldest is deleted.
