Plex Media Server has been crashing with some regularity lately

Lately my Plex Media Server has been crashing i will get the following event in the event viewer it seems to happen almost daily at this point, not sure where to begin troubleshooting this one. I had this once before on my old server, was caused by codec issues which should not be the case here.

Thanks for the logs. Heap corruption crashes do not always succeed in generating a crash report that Plex Media Server can upload.

What time was that Faulting Application event in the Application Event Log?

We could try and see if windows can capture this and generate a crash dmp file in %LocalAppData%\CrashDumps

If that does get a dmp file, please upload somewhere eg dropbox etc and send me a link privately
Also please provide the logs with debug enabled for the period covering the crash

Could you also filter the Application Event Log for event id’s 1000 and 1001 and save the output and send it to me - please note down the timestamp of the first filtered entry and let me know what it is when you send me the exported fil

Thanks for the dmp files

The crashes are in the Premium Music Library Gracenote Module GNSDK_MANAGER

We could try to reset the Gracenote database files in the Cahe directory. They would get recreated on restart

So I would suggest trying the following to see if the crashes go away

  • Shut Down Plex Media Server
  • Delete these gracenote database files
gn_cachq.gdb
gn_colls.gdb
gn_lists.gdb

They are in this directory
D:\PlexAppData\Plex Media Server\Cache\

  • Restart Plex Media Server

(The event log extracts show a crash on 14th June and one on 23rd June)
