Probably a stupid question, but I’m currently running PLex directly on my 4 bay Terranas independantly with various media stored. I am looking to get a tower PC but instead of running Plex on the tower and having to buy this tower unit with space to take my 2 x Sata drives from within the currentr Terranas unit, I am wondering if its as simple as installing Plex on the new tower PC then having to connect by cable the terranas for the access to the media files? Or even better run Plex on the tower PC and have the terranas unit networked?
Thanks in advance
it should be as simple as sharing out a directory or two on your NAS using the usual SMB sharing protocol from Microsoft. Because both comps will be on your LAN using CAT6 cable, nothing else is needed except to sit down on the Tower PC and map the network shares to local drive letters.
Well, in case that you don’t need all your watched status tranferred, you simply can start with a new PMS on a new server. It will detect and identify all your movies/TV shows in a new library and you need to set all of your amendments to metadata.

If using the same server hardware architecture, you can possibly also use your drives in a non-destructive way in a new NAS model and possbly extend disc space in that new model. I’ve done so three times using a QNAP. That way, all your data stays the same, but there’s a few Do’s and Don’ts. Maybe some soul wants to reference this for your architecture.
Edit: Here we go…

OK folks, ive now got the new pc, i removed the 2 4tb sata drives from my Terramaster NAS unit, once they were placed into the new windows based pc, the pc didnt detect the 2 added HDDs, I could see them in the bios but they havent been allocated a drive letter/number. Now when I run the plex it doesnt see the libraries that I had on the discs. When I take them out and put back into the Terramaster NAS box, bingo, everything is there again as it was. Anyone able to help me pls pls pls.
To be clear, I dont want to use the terramaster NAS anymore, I was hoping to put boith HDDs straight in the windows PC and carry on using the new pc as the server.
I suspect the Terramaster formatted the drives in a filesystem that Windows can’t read by default. Try to determine what the Terramaster used and let us know.
According to the storage pool the file system is ext4
Might be doable using this or some other method
