Plex Media server is inaccessible - Latest Plex version

Hi,

since few minutes, my Plex Media server is inaccessible. I tried to add a movie and it was scanning the library forever. I stop the scan and reran it. No changes.

I tried to restart my computer and the Plex Media Server wasn’t accessible anymore.
I tried to restart the service, no changes.
However, the “plexmediaserver” service is active though and getting an error “ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED” when trying to access it via Chrome.

From Plex clients, the server is inaccessible too.

PMS is running.
Did you set Secure Connections to REQUIRED?

No I did not. All settings are by default.
All I did was to restart my computer because the library scan was taking forever after adding a movie to the movie plex folder.

Your logs show a normal shutdown (Signal 15)

It does not show that it came back up after that.

Did you enable PMS to autostart at system boot?

The PlexMediaServer service autostart at reboot if it is your question.
Just so you know, there were no changes in the logs since I sent you the logs.
Last logs I’m seeing are the same ones at 19:51.

Do the standard ps -ef | grep -i plex to see if the processes are running.

If they are not, sudo journalctl -xe | grep -i plex and see what the most recent plex-related error is (if any).

None of the services are coming up., Specifically Plex Script Host.

Uninstall the binaries and reinstall (your library is safe – do not ‘purge’).

Be advised, we’re getting near the end of what I can do. Elementary is not a supported (or even tested) OS distro. I have no idea what the revision level of the distro’s libraries are.

What’s the right procedure for this uninstall & reinstall?

My server was running for over a year without major problem and it is the first time I get this one.

The normal package uninstall procedure for your system.

Ubuntu systems have a ‘purge’ option. I am only warning you not to invoke a ‘purge’ if it exists on yours.

Is Ubuntu tested with Plex? Because Elementary is based on Ubuntu and works pretty the same.

Ubunutu 16+ is supported, as is Fedora, Centos 7+, and Debian 8+.

Elementary is not supported, neither is Arch.

If I want to swtich to Ubuntu, which files from Plex do I need to transfer to not lose the Library metadata, etc?

Here is the how-to I’ve put together.

You want the “Backup, Restore or Clone” instructions.

Short version: Make a tarball of /var/lib/plexmediaserver and keep it safe. Restore it, then fix UID/GID to match the new system

Hi @ChuckPa ,

Just so you know I got it working with help of a friend.

All I did was rename Preferences.xml and reinstall plexmediaserver over it and it fix it.

I restarted to confirm and was working great!
