Plex server 1.0.2.2413 on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS server is unreachable.

Installed the latest and it says the server is unreachable. Downgraded to 9.16 same issue. Need help

My Plex is totally hosed. I cannot do anything and nothing starts. Just sits there looking for the Server. If this doesn’t get fixed or a get help ASAP I’m canceling my PlexPass. The last 2 version don’t seem like they were tested.

Working fine here. What app/UI is showing the server as unreachable, and is it LAN or remote?

The first steps to connection your server and making it accessible are in Settings - Server - General and Settings - Server - Remote Access

  1. Sign into your Plex account (General)
  2. Connect your server to Plex.tv which makes it accessible from outside you home via all the other plex apps

What have you completed and where is the problem?

I had similar trouble after I changed my IP address, I could not open the settings page anymore -.-
At the end I deleted the “Preferences.xml” and started all over again (Libraries stayed intact).

What you can also check, if the dns and all other network settings are still correct.

I have problems just by using the server on my computer that has the server installed on. This has nothing to do with remote or anything on my Roku. It’s just getting the server to find itself using the web page. Here is the screenshot. Also nothing has changed with my network settings.

After first double checking to verify PMS is actually running ps -ef | grep -i plex at the command line (Terminal) then:

Use the loopback address http://127.0.0.1:32400/web and get directly in.

I think it’s telling me that it’s running but if I go to the loopback address I get This site can’t be reached

127.0.0.1 refused to connect.

do you have any network/DNS settings that would mess with 127.0.0.1 or port 32400 on the device itself (not a router, as this should all be local to the machine at this point)

That means PMS isn’t running.

Open a terminal window:

sudo sh
systemctl status plexmediaserver

I suspect it will show an error.

journalctl -xe , and use the up/down cursor keys to see what it doesn’t like about it.

If you see no errors, PMS wasn’t enabled for automatic start (unlikely). I’ve seen ubuntu do that some times so please check. This would show as ‘enabled’ or ‘disabled’ in the systemctl status response above.

Were you running a customized PMS configuration prior to installing PMS. If so, then I know what happened and please go to /etc/systemd/plexmediaserver.service.d/override.conf and correct PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_APPLICATION_SUPPORT_DIR.

If none of those, please tell me what is unique about your configuration

DNS does not touch the local loopback adapter as they are all local-host-only destination ports.

ChuckPa, I have a whole bunch of errors. I am not using any special configs, just that I’m a Plex Pass user. Everything else is default.

This is what I got.

Ok, it did what I thought.

Please paste, using the ‘Code’ paragraph formatting above, the contents of your /usr/lib/systemd/system/plexmediaserver.service and, if existing, /etc/systemd/system/plexmediaserver.service or /etc/systemd/system/plexmediaserver.service.d/override.conf

For reasons which should not have happened, I suspect it dropped PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_APPLICATION_SUPPORT_DIR.

This was a build failure problem with 1.0.1. It was a typo on our part, was fixed in testing, committed to the source library upstream but somehow failed to propagate properly into all the actual built binaries. If you did the step to 1.0.1, that would explain it.

Where do I paste the code also thanks for find out the problem!

ChuckPa, I looked for those folders and cannot find them. I tried reinstalling 1.0.2 and here is what I get…

It gives me an error at the bottom.

Okay so reading this I now believe the latest build was some how corrupted because the EXACT problem is happening to me. I have a different Ubuntu version but I’m having the same issues as johnnyzee.

My version is:

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS
Release: 12.04
Codename: precise

And I used the plexmediaserver_1.0.2.2413-7caf41d_i386.deb update which shut everything down. I then went decided to purge plexmediaserver and start over. I installed this version and the exact same problem is happening!

This sucks! There goes family movie night!

Here is the contents of the only 1 of the 3 files you asked for which was from the /etc/systemd/system/plexmediaserver.service file.

I’ve been checking everything in the source tree. Your “plexmediaserver.service” file isn’t right

Would you please uninstall & purge plexmediaserver, verify the service file is gone.

Next install it but do not start it.

Please get me the contents again of the 1.0.2 package’s plexmediaserver.service again. I need to see if what you have and what I have are different.

MOVIE NIGHT WILL HAPPEN

verify:

in /usr/lib/systemd/system/plexmediaserver.service the “ExecStart” line is:

ExecStart=/bin/sh -c 'LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/plexmediaserver /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Plex\ Media\ Server'

I uninstalled, purged, rebooted, then installed PlexMediaServer. I did not start the service but I do not see the configuration file where you would asked me to look.

I found this in /lib/systemd/system and it was dated 07/18/2016 @ 09:37:48
