Plex Media Server missing from Plex app (NVIDIA Shield)

For some unknown reason the Plex Media Server option is missing from Plex settings (I’m using NVIDIA Shield). I’ve already updated the Plex Media Server, but still no joy. I am not able to access the Plex Media Server via the Plex Web App (through Windows), assuming this is due to the Plex Media Server option being absent from the settings.

What can I do? I don’t really want to uninstall and reinstall the server, which means I have to set up a new server and all my Metadata goes missing.

Yes, there was a firmware update. I’ve now managed to reinstall PMS via factory reset of the Shield. However, I’m not able to transfer the PMS data storage location from internal to USB (SanDisk). I’ve had no issues prior to the firmware update. I’ve reinstalled PMS 3 times. The USB appears as a removable drive in my Shield, but there is no option to select the USB under the Modify Storage Location (only appears 2 internal options). I store my PMS library in a USB drive.

Any suggestions? I couldn’t see solution to this on the link you provided.

This is not a solution. This is a way to at least get PMS running. There are still other issues. It is only marked as the solution so new users coming to this thread can find this comment easier. Even after getting Plex Media Server running, there is an issue with the storage device becoming disconnected/inaccessible resulting in PMS no longer responding. We are still investigating this issue. We have a build that should fix the issue of the external usb drive not being detected. Please …

My USB is defaulted to exFAT, which was what I was using before. I can only format it to exFAT or NTFS. What should I do?

Also, how do you do hotfix? You sent me a link, not sure what to do with it.

I have managed to get the firmware from NVIDIA and also the hotfix for the PMS, thank you very much. I am now able to run my PMS and also use the USB as the storage location.

However, I’ve now got a different issue after utilising my existing PMS library.

I’m now having issues playing files from certain folders (ie. English Movies & Animation folders), which shows ‘Playback Error - An error occurred loading items to play’. I have no issues playing files from TV Series & Anime folders. This is via the Plex Web App.

Plex via Shield shows English Movies & Animation folders to be empty, whereas TV Series & Anime folders are normal and can playback the media files.

So near yet so far. What can I do? I’ve tried editing Manage Library, which shows the correct path to my NAS (which is mounted on Shield). I have also removed and added the pathway again, but files cannot be played.

Just realised that I had an older PMS library backed up, which now works. Just have to update the library but am glad it works now.

Only thing is the PMS keeps disappearing randomly, but will come back itself after a while. Not sure if the update will fix this.
