Plex Media Server options not showing in the Plex app on Nvidia Shield

My server died (no idea why) so I`m starting again but the option to move the metadata to my external drive seems not to be there anymore. Anyone know what to do?

Yes that option should still be there. Make sure PMS is running.

I’ve realised that when I turn of the VPN it shows.

Huh, I haven’t seen reports of using a VPN preventing that option from appearing. That’s strange.

The solution I posted was a false negative.
Things deteriorated and I factory reset my Shield. I now don’t even have the VPN installed but the above problem whereby the ‘PLEX MEDIA SERVER’ options do not show is persisting.

Please anyone assist.

Did you Shield update to Experience 9 (i.e Android 11). We are looing into an issue with that firmware and moving data to an external drive. Shield experience 9 upgrade, server dissapeared - #88 by cliffh44

I experienced the issue both before and after the update.

Yesterday I updated my Shield 19 Pro to Experience 9 and Plex would no longer show any content stored on my external USB. The drive is set to removable storage.
I checked the permissions for the Plex server and Plex app as suggested by some others with the same problem.

The Plex app permissions are set to Allow only while using the app . The only other option is Don’t allow.

The Plex server permissions are set to Allow .

I signed up for the 9.01 hotfix which appeared approximately 3 hours after registering for it.
I applied the 9.01 hotfix and rebooted the Shield and the Plex server is still not working. I am able to read the contents of my external usb drive from Kodi and Xplore.

Here’s something of interest perhaps.

My Shield 17 had a notification that Experience 9 would be applied at 2am. I changed the update setting to Do not apply automatically.
Today, the notification was still present but when I opened Plex the external usb drive on my S17 was gone also.

I opened the Plex app and went to the settings. Nothing appears in the Plex Media Server section. Same as my S19.

I then opened the notification and I saw a message stating my S17 needed to restart in order to upgrade to Exp 9.
My S17 is upgrading as I write this.
Update has been applied, no external USB drives.

So apparently, something gets changed even before the Shield is upgraded to Experience 9.

I’ve shutdown both Shields, disconnected power, unplugged the external drives and plugged them in again (power off and when the Shield is on), swapped USB ports, changed the USB mode between Auto, Max Performance and Compatibility.
Nothing has worked on my systems.

I upgraded my Shield to Android 11 before seeing any of these posts and now I am unable to see my server. What is the Hot fix everyone is referring to? I am trying to do everything to avoid a factory reset. I tried changing permissions and everything. Still no luck.

I also experienced this issue shortly prior to updating and it continues now having updated.

Nvidia released a hotfix for the Shield.

I’ve not yet seen anyone post a fix or workaround.

Some folks on the Nvidia thread mention factory resets and sideloading old versions of PMS. However, others tried the same and it didn’t work.

Based on info in the threads, both Plex and Nvidia are aware of the problem and are working on it. Might give them some time to come up with a fix/workaround before going down the factory-reset rabbit hole like some people on the Nvidia boards.

I did a factory reset already…did nothing.

Applied the hotfix… no dice for me.

A PMS update is also required. You can subscribe to the announcement thread to be notified when it is released (scroll to bottom of thread, change Normal to Watching).

The other forum thread has additional details. You may want to subscribe or check it for updates.

There are additional problems also. I can’t even ping my Shield from my laptop. The only thing that has changed was the upgrade to Exp 9. I’ve been accessing my Shield across my network for years without any problems since 2017. Now, forget it.

That’s got nothing to do with Plex. I would suggest trying a factory reset incase something didn’t go right with the firmware update.
