The first four years I ran PMS was on a Windows 8 machine, an old HP media center box that I literally found in the trash that there was nothing wrong with other than needing a new hard drive.
It ran very well until the system itself blew up finally, it was based upon an AMD 4400+ Nodus (?) N motherboard, maximum ram 4 GB of DDR 2 I think. Proprietary motherboard, but it was exactly the same as another 4400+ machine I had that I built from a bare-bones system., and for some reason that old hunk of junk HP was lightning fast. It was probably windows eight that gave it better performance, I kept it on windows eight even after 8.1 came out. PMS really ran well.
But I have had the same issue off and on ever since the beginning, sometimes I get automatic updates, most of the time I have to do it myself. In fact, there is an update now, and my system is not updating itself. It is still on 1.32.1-6999. when I go to the downloads page, it tells me that the file that they have there is older than this one, which doesn’t make any sense to me, The server that they have listed is dated April 25.
That might be the reason why our systems are not updating, under settings general, it’s showing 6999 as up to date, and when I press on check for updates, it still tells me it is up to date.
This sets off an alarm in my head even though I have downloaded a server with a higher version number something tells me not to install it until this gets resolved in my media server.
Actually, this makes me wonder if my computer clock is synced, but I just manually synced it, and it is still telling me that 6999 is the latest version although I know there is a newer version.
I had my server on a Windows 7 machine for the last five or six years until they stopped supporting seven. It was on a machine that refused to take a windows 10 update. “And then it exploded”, causing me to build a new server in another Win 10 computer.
I would say give it a week and then when this dating issue gets resolved, it’s possible that your server will automatically update.
I used to get automatic updates under windows seven until the very day that it was no longer supported, but occasionally, I would get this exact same problem on that machine too, a new update was dated prior to the release date of the version that I actually had. And then it would not automatically update. I had manually updated with the newer file, but I stopped doing that because it’s just better when the system updates itself.
Let me know if your system suddenly updates itself, I have been keeping my eye on the available releases. The only question I have, does windows eight allow you to run the 64 bit version of the server or do you have to run the 32-bit version?
Oh… The other user answered the question while I was typing this up, windows eight is officially discontinued. So you won’t get any new updates.
You can either update your Windows 8 machine to 10, or you can just wait for your new machine. I apologize for posting that big long tome, I didn’t know that eight was no longer supported as well as seven…
