Plex Media Server omitted a movie after added it.

I have found that my PMS has a strange behavior. After I have issued a “Scan Library Files” on a movie folder, it has found a movie “Happy Death Day” briefly. However, it removed the enlisting before it finished the scan. It is very strange. I have searched and am certain the there is no file named “.plexignore” anywhere in the root folder of any subfolders.

Any clue on how to enlist it? Thank in advance!

Info:

  • PMS version: 1.12.1.4885 (manually updated from FreeNAS Plugin)
  • Platform: FreeNAS 11.1U4, Plex Plugin.
  • File relative path from movie folder root: Happy Death Day (2017)/Happy Death Day (2017) - 1920x800.mkv

Try filtering for duplicates… The chances are it got matched incorrectly and was merged with another title…

You also might want to consider proper naming of the title…
Remove the “- 1920x800”

… or enclose it in [Brackets] - and do note the folder and the file need to be the same and both need to be compliant:

Happy Death Day (2017) [1920x800]/
…Happy Death Day (2017) [1920x800].mkv

The Plex Dance®:

  1. remove show/movie and all associated folders from library
  2. rescan library files
  3. empty trash
  4. clean bundles
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200392106-Library-Actions <— scan library files, empty trash, clean bundles
  5. bring names and structures into compliance/Move LMA/fiddle around/etc
  6. replace corrected show/movie/folders into library
  7. rescan library files

All Steps. In Order. No Shortcuts.

No, folder and file names do not need to be exactly the same.

Happy Death Day (2017) /
   Happy Death Day (2017) [1920x800].mkv

would be equally fine.

How to find the discrepancy between number of files on disk and the number of movies in the Plex movie library

Well, that might work at your house, but it won’t work at mine - no matter how much OCD medication I ingest… and, as you know - I pretty much stick with the packaged instructions for my behavior and it (almost) always works:

Well I have seen this behavior more often than not being merged titles.
His symptoms were… First it appears to match it then it disappears.

I have seen this happen when a movie is initially scanned by the PMS only after the meta data is processed it gets merged into another movie by mis-identification.

Filter your library by the “Duplicate Filter” and see if an item shows up with a little blue 2…
If so, inspect the contents… you might find your missing movie there.
