Plex Media Server on Apple TV 4K

Will Apple TV 4K get Plex Media Server as Nvidia Shield TV since Apple TV is more powerful than Shield TV

No. Apple would never approve it for many reasons.

Hello
For what reasons ? Infuse manages to do so as MrMC and VLC or other players

This would be awesome. Also can’t see why Apple would deny it, if using NAS storage as I’m sure most people would. Seems it would be just like VLC?

The Plex company has released two updates for its tvOS app following the launch of Apple TV 4K. The first update (version 1.18) was pushed out in late October and the second update (version 1.19) was pushed out this week.

The first update features support for 4K video playback on Apple TV 4K. In addition, it adds support for “direct playback of FLAC music” on tvOS 11, meaning both versions of the Apple TV box. The second update adds support for “direct play support for HEVC video codec” on tvOS 11 (both Apple TVs). That is possible because Apple has enabled native support for the formats with the release of tvOS 11.

Plex on Apple TV 4K does not yet offer support for HDR video.

but you didn’t mention any reason

Yeah, i’d bump up this old thread since, considering the power of the A10x chip, it’s quite a shame Apple doesn’t allow PMS on Apple TV. I mean, why build a separate (with added cost) HTPC when this box can do the trick? Unfortunately i wasn’t able to find any way (jailbreak or otherwise) to do it.
And since Apple discontinued the Time Capsule, I see no market here for them to protect. Sure, it’s not PLex’ fault, but i believe there are quite a few people interested in such a solution out there.
