Plex Media Server on ASUSTOR AS6212RD NAS

ASUSTOR NAS Server Version#: most recent ver 4.xx of ASUSTOR Server OS
Plex Media Server Version#: 1.42.1.10060-4e8b05daf

I installed the Plex Media Server from the App Center which is working fine. However, it is not allowing me to add any of my own media as the page where the option to add media should exist, there is instead a message to install Plex Media Server. How strange it is that Plex Media Server is displaying a msg to install the Plex Media Server.

Can someone assist, please. Thanks.

P.S. Uninstalled the official Plex Media Server, downloaded and installed the package from Plex Website for ASUSTOR NAS but there is no difference.

Regards,
A.

Can someone please move the request to the ASUSTOR NAS Section. Thanks

The server is providing a bundled web app. If you’re accessing it from a different subnet or using a different Plex account than the one linked with the server, that’s all you get to see (no access to the server itself, your data or media).

Have you already completed the setup of your server?
In order to complete the setup you need to open your Plex Media Server through its local IP from within the same subnet – using http://[PMS IP address]:32400/web. This will bring up a wizard/dialog where you can name your server and link it to your Plex account (as well as creating your first libraries).

Once you “claimed” your server (=linked it to your Plex account), you’ll also be able to access it from other Plex apps or via http://app.plex.tv/desktop.

Hi tom80H, thanks for your detailed post.

The moment I restarted the server, I noticed that I was indeed being directed to port 32400 by default whenever I used the ASUSTOR portal to open the webpage of PMS. This is what I see when that page is opened:

so it means that I am actually being directed to the correct administration page but for some reason, it is not showing me the options to add my own media and instead it appears that the app thinks it is just a web player and not a server.

I must also share that the first time I installed it, a few days ago, it already had my login details which means I must have installed PMS sometime in the past but so long ago that I don’t even remember installing it. In any case, I deleted that account and created a new account but still stuck on this page.

Regards.

If you had previously created the server and associated it with a different account, your new accounts cannot automatically take it over (imagine if you could just dialup the IP of anyone’s server and claim it as yours).

If you no longer have the old account (or it’s credentials), this support article should help:

Hi again Tom80H,

Thanks for the solution mate, was able to fix the issue with your provided solution. Now the Server has been claimed, libraries added and I am waiting for the system to update the metadata of the media.

Much appreciated :slightly_smiling_face:

Regards.
