The package controls for Plex are no longer functional on my Synology NAS. I’m unable to stop or start the Plex service. I have been able to update the Plex package at least twice, but without the typical “stop the service, install the update, start the service” sequence that I have historically done. I have rebooted my Synology NAS, but the issue remains after rebooting. Anyone else experiencing this?

You should avoid DSM 7.1.1 patch 7.
Synology have committed to fix this bug with DSM 7.1.1 patch 8.

You do not have to stop Plex Media Server to update to a newer version.

If PMS is stopped, you can start it from the main Package Center window.

Until Synology releases DSM 7.1.1 Update 8, you can also SSH into the NAS and use the Linux command line to control Plex Media Server.

$ sudo synopkg stop PlexMediaServer

$ sudo synopkg start PlexMediaServer

Note: DSM 7.1.1 Update 7 is the only affected version.

Updating to DSM 7.2 or DSM 7.2.2, if supported by your NAS, also fixes the problem.

If updating to DSM 7.2.2 you must use the Plex Media Server package specific to that version of DSM (choose DSM 7.2.2 when downloading from plex.tv).
