Plex Media Server on MBP (Early 2015) is not opening

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

Hi, Plex Media Server is not opening on my Mac. I have downloaded the right software & everything is up to date but when I click on the application nothing happens; doesn’t open nothing. I’m able to download it on my new MacBook but want to use the old one as a central home theatre location.

Hi @kaushalmr_gmail_com,
you’d be so kind and give us some more information? The only thing I can tell is you’re having a mac and an installation issue. Helpful information would be:

  • Operating system version (“mac” is not enough)
  • Plex Server Version (ever wondered what “Server Version#:” at the beginning of your post could mean? )
  • Steps to reproduce the error
  • any software on the mac which might prevent installation (AV?)
  • Did you follow these steps?
  • have you tried turning it off and on again?
  • is there an error message?

Hi, sure my laptop is on MacOS Big Sur (Version 11.4).

I’m not too sure what the Plex Server Version is; I think it’s 1.23.3.4707-ebb5fe9f3. I downloaded it from here Media Server Downloads | Plex Media Server for Windows, Mac, Linux, FreeBSD and More.

Steps to reproduce error; I’ve followed the installation instructions to the letter and anytime I try to open the app (either through the application folder or launchpad) nothing happens; the app doesn’t open. I’ve tried restarting my laptop; deleting previous Plex server files, etc. nothing works.

Okay, so I didn’t find any similar issues, can you check if there are any logs? support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files - Manually finding logs
If there are, zip them and attach them here. If not, then check if you can get an older version (meaning no more recent than 1.23.2.xxxx) and try to see if that works.

Hi, sorry for my late reply. I’ve attached the Log files.
DiagnosticReports.zip (10.0 KB)

Hi @Super4Jet; just checking in. Were you able to have any luck?

Eh no actually, because those kind of logs seem very unfamiliar to me and I just forgot to tell you that. In my case, going to the log directory yields my these five files:

And yes, while that is Windows, the logs itself should look/be the same on Mac afaik.
And other than to tell you to check if you got the correct path, my help is of no use since I’m just good enough at PMS logs, but certainly not good at mac related logs. Sorry for that

Hmm no worries; I really the help. I might just re-set the laptop and then try to re-download it.
