Since yesterday I am using Plex Media Server on my NAS computer. Everything is working OK.
But sometimes I have internet connection problems and then I CAN NOT use the Plex Media Server website.
HOW can I stop this annoying behaviour of being forced to login to Plex.tv for using MY (!) media server?
Don’t get me wrong but this is kind of a very very bad software design to not let people use what they installed when not having an internet connection. Yes I know, security etc. But what about an option to CLEARLY disable login if the connection comes from the inner network itself and not from outside?
Using Options > Network > putting in some ip adresses doesn’t work at all. If I cut my internet connection the website (server) just complains that there is no internet connection.
My NAS where the Plex server is installed on is 192.168.1.50, my own computer is 192.168.1.10.
What I typed in into the network options: 192.168.1.10, 192.168.1.50.
Can’t get access to MY (!) server which I installed yesterday in my OWN (!) network without internet.
How to fix this really annoying issue?
I am using Plex on OpenMediaVault without any firewall nor port forwarding. Without internet connection everything is working perfectly.
And another thing: I don’t know why this forum software is displaying my full email adress. Could an administrator or moderator change this pleace due to data privacy reasons?
Settings > Server > Network, enter your home network IP addresses (or the whole subnet) in the field List of IP addresses and networks requiring no authentication (e.g. “192.168.1.10” or “192.168.1.0/24”).
Plex will need to authenticate your setup once.
as for your e-mail address…
look at the green boxes above the posts. 1st box explains how to change it for users who used their e-mail address as login but didn’t set an alias. If you clicked those boxes away:
If you have not already, we suggest setting your Plex username to something else rather than email which is displayed on your posts in forum. You can change the username at https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/account
I’m really sorry for the second post after my first:
problem solved. After a few times reloading the site it redirected me to :32400/web/ and now it’s working without login - perfect.
I just hope my e-mail adress will disappear here soon.
I’m sorry but something is really not working well with Plex here.
I’ve put in all the IP adresses of my computers in my network but no one of the other computers can connect to my Plex Server without being asked to login.
What am I doing wrong here? Why isn’t there just a super easy option to completely disable the login prompt?
depending on your configuration you should only be required to authenticate once. this is not so much to log into the server but to verify what level of functionality you’re authorized to use (regular Plex vs. Plex Pass, PMS owner vs. Friend vs. Managed User).
You can use Plex pretty much completely without login – in which case it’ll only be available inside your own network. No sharing, no nothing. This will however also impact some of the clients such as the Apple TV which depend on being “linked” to your account in order to work.
Are you sure you’ve used the right field in the network settings? There’s multiple options asking you to enter IP addresses or networks but only one about clients not requiring authentication (“List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without authentication”)
