Plex Media Server on NVidia Shield not recording TV Shows

Server Version#:1.18.2.2079
Player Version#:7.25.1.14216
Plex and PMS worked for about a year running on my Shield Pro using internal storage (almost all of it available). Occasionally, updates would break it, but I always seemed to get it running again by updating everything and resetting a few times. The latest updates a few weeks ago broke the system and I can not record to DVR. I can watch live TV, schedule recordings, and could play back previous recordings. But all new recordings failed to record. After several days of tweaking, I did a factory reset on the Shield and started over but have the same result. When I manually start a recording or a scheduled one starts, it immediately fails. Using a windows interface, I can see the appropriate directory created in the Shield file system but it creates a TS file with a size of 0 bytes. I will be happy to provide log files, but I will need a little direction to provide the right thing. I am not a power user.

One additional point is I am able to pause and resume the live TV so it is able to record that is some temporary location.

Another thing of note is that if I try to view a program that is already in progress, it will just tune the channel. It will not give me the option to record.

I set a program to record and tried to follow what is happening in the PMS log. The Key errors are as follows. The full log with Debug info is attached.

I just noticed another error on powerup that may be relevant. Unable to open named mutex.

I’m new to Plex, but I am encountering the same issue. I was wondering if anyone has responded to this issue with any additional thoughts or suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

A new version of the PMS resolved the issues.

Latest version has unfortunately not fixed it for me.

  • Plex Media Server v1.18.0.1913-e5cc93306 - NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV
  • Play Store App v.7.26.0.14578
  • HDHomeRun Connect HDHR3-CC Firmware 20190621

Live TV of the same channel works great. Recording from the app on Shield or from the web app at plex.tv fails.

Recording from the HDHomeRun DVR app works fine but the UI leaves something to be desired so I figured I’d try Plex. 5 hours of fail followed.

Logs are attached but here’s part of it.

  • it seems to be trying each tuner but failing to record from any of the 4 available, then throws a transcoder error

It’s fixed. I’m a noob and didn’t realize you could update media server app independently of the Plex android app.
Went to https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb and updated and everything works great. Argh.
