Plex Media Server only runs "As a Service" - refuses to start via Win10 Shortcut

Hi,

Despite my earlier topic (Plex Server on Windows refuses to start after years) I keep running into this same issue:

  1. I run Plex as a Windows Service; all works fine and I can stop/start the service as often as I like. I installed the service via NSSM.

  2. When I stop the service, and launch it via the regular Shortcut (so via Windows 10 Start Menu), it instantly stops again (within a milisecond). I cannot get it to remain running; also not “Run As Admin”.

  3. When I re-run the latest version installer and leave the “Launch Plex” at the last step enabled, Plex Media Server successfully launches and runs, with the icon visible in my system tray.

  4. As soon as I quit the app (or reboot), I’m back at step #1. I cannot run Plex as app anymore, and I have to run it as service. I cannot launch it as “traditional Windows app” without re-running the full installer…

Nothing tangible in logs, nog Crash Updater logs. Really annoying situation after all this time without any issues…

Hope we can get to the bottom of this one? Thanks!

Any ideas…? How can I properly troubleshoot this?
