I found a quick fix that did work for me. Toggle the DLNA Server in the Plex web settings in Windows off and on, disable, save, and then re enable and save and it should then allow Windows to continue to sleep normally. You may need to disable, save then restart the PC, then re enable it for it to allow Windows to sleep.
Let me know if that did end up fixing it
The latest build of server as of 05.16-2019
From my observations, My Xbox plex app doesnāt gracefully release the power request.
latest IOS/windows clients does this gracefully, requesting the power request to keep the server from sleeping, then after about 2 seconds, after playback stops, the request is released.Letting my pc sleep.
Hi to @vinhla ,
It may be a combination of what you have enabled under Sleep settings in Windows, and if you have enabled āSupport Away Mode when preventing system sleepā under the General settings in Plex Server web for Windows. Try toggling this Plex web setting off, restart, then try, and if not, then re enable, restart, and try.
Also see Part D) Setting up Windows 10 sleeping habits, in the below guide link, especially under the āMultimedia settingsā option in this part on what to try, remembering you may need to restart PC after enabling certain settings, and also āPut the computer to sleepā: being 20-30 minutes for a full delay to allow the Server PC to think and wait before re sleeping. Let me know if these options did indeed fix your problem. Link is below:
Thanks for the Help but Iām quite sure its a bug thats been introduce into the XBOX plex app.
When I play a file from the xbox app, plex never releases the requests in āSystemā when I end playback, when I run "powercfg /requests from the command line.
āAwayModeā always shows ānoneā
The only thing I can think of, is, my xbox is on preview release thats suppose to fix the HEVC 3 minute playback crash bug.
Apple tv-works correctly
ios-works correctly
Web player- works correctly
windows 10 client- works correctly
I also think that this is the case. After doing my own troubleshooting, it appears as though it is the xbox one app that is causing the issues. If I watch anything on plex on the xbox one, my PC wonāt enter sleep correctly even when manually telling it to. The monitor will switch off but the system fan and mouse/keyboard stay on etc.
This does not appear to be happening with any other plex app.
It has been driving me mad, I donāt even know how many drivers Iāve re-installed trying to get to the root of this issue.
Looks like weāre getting closer to finding the cause, just need Plex to do their bit now and update the if that is indeed what the cause is.
kinda good to know that Iām not the only one.
Sounds very much like a prominent and frustrating bug then. Donāt forget to create a thread listing this issue and linking this thread as well in the Xbox One forum department
I have multiple windows 7 systems running PMS.
ever since the 1.15 upgrade none of them will sleep as long as PMS is running.
seems from what I can tell so far is that PMS is sending to Plex an update status every few minutes like a keep alive timer. and the windows system see that as activityā¦
when I know more Iāll post what I findā¦
@nydave69 , See my post above that mentions-
None of the solutions above worked for me. The only way for me to put windows 10 to sleep is to exit Plex.
As soon as I start plex it stops the PC from going to sleep.
Edit: Only solution Iāve found is to disable DNLA in plex settings, and then run Services from the start menu as admin, find Plex Update Service, stop in, and set it to disabled.
Now my PC will go to sleep and stay that way.
I tried what you suggested, in every combination of reboots and settingsā¦
this is my normal setting for these fields.
still wonāt go to sleep, havenāt had time to scope out the traffic I was seeing when no one was on for a while on this server.
.
Hi guys,
That is correct. When one leaves the Plex web browser open in Windows, or the Plex Media Player, or if anyone else is using your remote access server and may have left a Plex app open, including the iOS or Android Plex app that may be paused in the background of oneās device, your Plex server will continue to keep your PC awake. I donāt believe there is any fix for this. To allow the PC to sleep, one must close any Plex apps first, and including any apps still open or paused via remote access.
RJM22 I Think everyone who tries to help is to be respected and appreciated as well, thank you. But to be honest guessing around doesnāt really help. It looks like, it seems, probably, maybe, does not really help.
"I donāt believe there is any fix for this. To allow the PC to sleep, one must close any Plex apps first, and including any apps still open or paused via remote access."
This is non-sense!
FACT is, that the standby, sleep, hybernate mode for the server has not been prevented before, even if a (remote) client was still linked while a media file was paused. Since the PMS update SOMETHING FROM THE PMS CODE IS PREVENTING SLEEP MODE. In my case on a Windows 10 PRO machine. Still waiting for a FIX.
No worries @RazorPlex , I understand your concern and feel your frustration. Hereās then hoping the Plex team picks this bug up and resolves the sleeping issue. There should indeed be a setting in the PMS, to trigger the ability to keep the PC awake, or sleep the PC if needed.
Only solution Iāve found is to disable DNLA in plex settings, and then run Services from the start menu as admin, find Plex Update Service, stop in, and set it to disabled.
Now my PC will go to sleep and stay that way, even if a plex app is running on another device or my PC, so it must be something to do with the update service?
Thanks for your understanding @SunnyDays
OK, thanks @Rambo-Mc-Mut-Nutts I will try the work around with the update service also, but why do we have to bother with work arounds that prevent other functions while it was running fine before the update. never change a running system! once more. this is something Plex should write onto their foreheads when runnin around their workplaces
powercfg /requests
still shows:
[PROCESS] \Device\HarddiskVolume7\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\Plex Media Server.exe
after stopping & deactivating "Plex Update Service"
I doubt that this will allow my PMS (Win 10 Pro PC) to sleep.
My doubts were legitimate: Stopping/deactivating the Plex Update Service had no impact on the problem.
The update to V 1.15.6.1079 did not solve the issue either.
PLEX help pls.
I also tried the stopping and disabling Plex Update and do reboots,
Still not sleeping but stopping Plex it goes to sleep on time.
Just and FYIā¦
The Plex PMS server Iām testing with has no users other then admin user. Itās running Windows 7.
It is a clone of my other servers which work perfectly except they wont sleep now since the 1.15 versions.
