Plex preventing Windows' sleep mode since last update

Hi everybody,

Several weeks ago I updated my PMS to version 1.0.3.2461. Since then, my Windows 10 machine will not enter sleep mode as long as PMS is running. If Plex doesn’t run, there’s no problem at all.

This problem didn’t exist before the last update. My computer could enter sleep mode while Plex was running. If I was trying to access it with a Plex client, a magic packet caused the computer to wake up and the client could get the information from the Plex server.

On the PMS settings page, it doesn’t matter whether “Support Away Mode when preventing system sleep” is checked or not.

Does anybody know how to solve this problem?

Many thanks ahead!

I’ve go the same problem, since update - It’s really annoying having to close Plex on the PC to get it to sleep.

I’m having the same problem with PMS 1.1.4.2757-24ffd60 on Windows 10. I’d consider this to be a security issue; when I try to go into sleep mode all three of my screens will turn off but the computer doesn’t actually sleep and more importantly it does not lock. It would be easy for someone to walk away thinking their computer is password protected like it normally would be in sleep mode.

same issue here, only thing that is helping right now is http://www.ampsoft.net/utilities/WinOFF.php#Download

Same issue running Windows 10 and plex 1.2.4

Windows 10, Plex 1.2.5 and the PC won’t go to sleep either when PMS is on.

powercfg shows
SYSTEM: [PROCESS] \Device\HarddiskVolume5\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\Plex Media Server.exe

same issue with 1.2.6

I just installed Plex on a new Windows 10 box and have this exact same issue, is this something that is being addressed?

Same issue. Nothing additional to add. Thanks.

So I’ve had this issue for a few weeks now. With Plex Media Server on (even if not being accessed by my network) my computer would constantly run at full power and never sleep, and my monitors would only switch to a blank black screen (rather than ever turning off).

By disabling “Enable the DLNA Server” in Plex Media Server settings, my computer and monitors will now properly go to sleep with Plex Media Server running. I have no idea when this service was added, why it is on default, what it does, or why it was added, but after an unnecessary amount of trial and error found that it was definitely the culprit.

I am running the most up-to-date versions of Plex Media Server (Version 1.7.5.4035) and Windows 10 (Version 1703 Build 15063.413)

I am having the same issue. I disabled all processes and every time I re-enable Plex Server my Windows 10 NUC will not stay asleep. If I close the plex server app, the pc can go to sleep. My “Enable the DLNA Server” box was already unchecked.
Does anyone have any other ideas?

It is my opinion that the Plex server is behaving correctly. A server should never be allowed to sleep.

However I can see that there are other views and some people may want their server to sleep even though it degrades performance so I believe that Plex should the “keep awake” function, whatever it actually is, to be optionally enabled or disabled.

But do not think that Plex will ever make it optional. Plex does not believe in user options. Plex wants to shoehorn everyone’s media consumption into exactly the same mold and every option they give allows the users more freedom and freedom is about as “anti-Plex” as it gets.

Same here. That this hasn’t been fixed in over 2 years since this thread has been started indicates that it probably won’t ever be fixed.

Disabling DLNA didn’t help.

The most frustrating thing is that it’s random. Sometimes it goes to sleep fine if I close the server app, but usually it doesn’t. Sometimes it tries to go to sleep(hdd spins down, etc), but then immediately wakes up again. Sometimes it doesn’t even try, only the screen turns off. It’s so annoying.

Hey guys, see here!!-
