Plex Media Server randomly shutting down on its own (Win 10 Desktop)

Server Version#: 1.19.3.2843

Hello all,

I have been running Plex on a Windows 10 desktop for about a year now running lifetime Plex Pass. As of about a month ago, the Plex Server app has begun randomly closing down and removing itself from my taskbar, requiring a restart of the Plex Media Server app to access my library again, of course. I regularly install the Server update packages when I see them pop up.
First post, let me know if I am missing any info.

Would appreciate any help.

Non-verbose logs attached here

I often experience the same problem, most notably when I run an update to the app, but often at random times too.

I don’t about your logs but have found that turning off hardware acceleration seems to really help in my case.

I realise that this probably isn’t ideal but may point you in the right direction.

Please do not upload to sites like this where it is impossible to see which is your item to download and what is advertising

Just attach the logs zip file here in the forum

Sorry about that, attached to the post now

Thanks for the comment. I hope that isn’t the only solution, as I am specifically running Server on this machine to take advantage of hardware acceleration.

Could you locate the dmp files here

C:\Users\CraigServ\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Crash Reports\1.19.3.2843-e3c1f7bcd\PLEX MEDIA SERVER

and zip and send to me

I see you have now upgraded to 1.19.4.2902

If you are still getting crashes please let me have the logs from 1.19.4 and also the crash dmp from the 1.19.4 directory

It would be
C:\Users\CraigServ\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Crash Reports\1.19.4.2902-69560ce1e\PLEX MEDIA SERVER

It is very possible your crashes are due to the issue fixed in a later 1.19.3 release

  • (IntroDetector) Crash on Windows when using older CPUs

The crashes have seemed to have been noticeably less frequent since the latest upgrade, through the directory you mentioned shows one 1.19.4 folder (though it appears to be empty?)

Attaching the latest logs and the two folders you mentioned here.
1.19.3.2843-e3c1f7bcd.zip (212.9 KB)
1.19.4.2902-69560ce1e.zip (758 Bytes)
Plex Media Server Logs_2020-06-08_16-54-50.zip (4.5 MB)

Empty because there have not been crashes since the update to 1.19.4

The 1.19.3.2843-e3c1f7bcd directory has 6 crashes between 25 May and 1 June for a crash that was fixed in 1.19.3.2852 and later versions

The logs from 1.19.4 also do not show any crash in the period of time covered by the logs

You say

seemed to have been noticeably less frequent since the latest upgrade

So are you getting crashes ?
A crash is when the Plex Media Server.exe process terminates and disappears from Task Manager

You could easily establish if Plex Media Server.exe is still crashing by filtering the Windows Application Event Log for Application Exceptions

I am not seeing any application crashes listed after 6/1 in that log. Judging by the crash track record, it seems like the 1.19.4 update may have resolved the issue, hooray! I will update if it happens again. Thanks for looking into it
