Plex Media Server Recently Added not updating

I recently had to re-install Plex Media Server (latest version, at time of writing this Version 0.9.15.6) on my server PC as a result of unrelated problems on that machine requiring Windows 10 to be refreshed (and thus all programs needing to be re-installed), and am now experiencing this issue. I initially added just the one Location for items for my Movies library, then added the other locations, then added my TV Shows Library and the various locations for that. It imported all the Movies and TV shows, but appears to be ‘stuck’ now showing items that were added to the libraries when I was adding the library locations, and isn’t adding new items as they’re added to the libraries.

I have of course ensured that ‘Settings > Server > Library > Update my library automatically’ is ticked, but even un-ticking that and forcing a Library update doesn’t help, nor does ‘Optimize database’ help.

I’ve also checked the permissions for the drives (all local drives, not on a NAS or another machine) and all users appear to have full permissions for those drives.

Am I right in thinking I should upload the Plex Media Scanner logs here so they can be checked to see what the issue is?

Hi Troy, I’m pretty sure the Windows version of Plex server also runs as the user ‘plex’. I’d check if that account exists and if it does check that the permissions are set for that. With your setup this should be fairly simple.

I have seen this happen before and I don’t recall how I got past it. It may well have been that I deleted the Plex library locations in Plex, then re-added and said to myself, ‘Don’t mess with that while it’s working’ and left it there. I’ve personally found that separating out your media into separate folders each with a separate library is a good way of separating out any issues as you can add them one by one - its seems like you’re doing this already though. Also, I’ve found that typically if new items aren’t being added 9/10 it’s permissions. If none of that works, definately have a go at uploading your plex logs, I think there’s a specific library scanning log that might have the info. If it has nothing, again I’d be inclined to think permissions. Hope that helps a little bit!

After posting this question, I did a lot of searching, both here and with the help of google. Then I noticed something, the first item was always the same, and some things were indeed getting added, but they were never showing as the first item. So with that in mind, I had a look at the first item, and discovered that for some reason, the file had the modified date set in the properties as the 26th of December 2016… I’ve since changed that to be a more appropriate date, but that doesn’t seem to have had an effect, even after updating the libraries and optimising the database. So I’ve moved that file elsewhere and it’s no longer showing in the Recently added list.

I’ll have a look at the permissions, thank you very much for the suggestion.

And yes, my setup is pretty simple for now, although it will become a little more complex soon when I get a plex pass and migrate my data from local storage to a NAS.
