Plex Media Server Settings or Roku Settings?

Hello everyone,

I currently have two places in the house where we (the family) can watch Plex. Our living room which has a Samsung TV with the Plex app on the TV and our theater room which has a Roku box with the Plex channel app on the Roku. Most movies/shows play just fine via the Roku Plex app, however, some of my more recent rips that include 7.1 audio or possibly intensive video stutter/stop when watching via the Roku.

For example, Game of Thrones plays just fine out on our Samsung TV but after about 3-5 minutes of watching on the Roku it starts to stutter and or completely stop.

My PMS is running on an Intel NUCi5 with 8gb of memory and a SSD. Is there a setting I should change on my Media Server or Roku that I could update/change to stop the stuttering/issues I’m having?

Thanks for any help

Is the media transcoding?
Probably is as I do not think the Roku supports 7.1

I’m not at home right now, but I believe I have it set up to direct play when possible. The MKV containers that the movies/shows are in also have the 5.1 audio so if Roku didn’t support 7.1 wouldn’t it just pass the 5.1 audio anyway?

I guess this leads me to another question. Is it worth ripping the 7.1 track from my blurays if it’s only going to pass through 5.1? I know the Roku 4 can handle 7.1 so my other question is, why wouldn’t it pass the audio through? I hear sound out of all of the speakers but that doesn’t necessary tell me it’s 7.1. I’ve played 2 channel movies that play sounds out of all 7 speakers before so I’m assuming that’s my receiver making that happen.
