Plex Media Server stopping randomly

Here we go.

  1. Create shared folder PlexData anywhere you want. It’s only a placeholder for one entry which takes you into the QPKG storage area for PMS.

  2. Restart PMS. Wait 1 minute, Now stop it completely. We’ll leave it stopped until we’re done

  3. Open FileStation → PlexData. You’ll now see Plex Media Server listed. This is the link into that storage area. Click it.

  4. We’re going to copy 2 things out of it.
    – Copy “Preferences.xml” to somewhere “Public” share works for what we’re doing.
    – Drill down into “Plug-in Support/Databases”
    – COPY com.plexapp.plugins.library.db to the Public share as well.
(we’ll use this to recover your watch history from the SSH shell if you want. Skip this step if you don’t care or have PMS saving your history to the cloud)

  5. Navigate back up to the “Plex Media Server” folder where you see “Preferences.xml”

  6. Highlight everything in FileStation,
    Screenshot from 2023-08-25 14-22-21

  7. Delete it. (This will take a bit to complete. )

  8. When it’s complete and empty again –

  9. COPY “Preferences.xml” from the Public share back to this “Plex Media Server” shared folder (so it’s back in proper place when PMS starts

  10. START PMS

  11. Give it some extra time to startup. It is going to do a lot of First-Run initialization (empty DB, new directory structure creation, etc)

  12. Now open PMS.

  13. You should find that you have a completely EMPTY server with the same name and share permissions as you had before

Please let me know how you’ve fared at this point.

I’ll try this in some days thanks, just a question how do I save that history to cloud ?

Opting In To View State Sync

View state sync will only be an option for those accounts which have access to a Plex Media Server running 1.27.2 or higher. The setting can be found under Settings > Account > Sync My Watch State and Ratings in the web app (as well as a few other player apps, like Android and iOS).

I’ve done all stuff here :
Deleted all the folders inside the Plex Media Server folder
Replaced the Preferences.xml only to have a new database.
Some of the users disapeared from invites, had to re-invite them.
Still got a lot of busy database giving up that makes the server buffer a lot during watching and it’s annoying.

I’ve waited 24 hours to let the server startup clearly and load all my stuff.

@NAN0XXX

I can’t work with these error screenshot snippets.
There is too little information on them.

How is your ZFS volume configured ?
– Is it SSD or HDD?
– Number of physical devices per volume ?
– Which RAID level ?

I will need your DEBUG logs too in the very near future.

My initial thought is ZFS on a single HDD – which will be painfully slow and cause this every time. (ZFS on HDD is very slow as it is)

Bro you pointed exactly my configuration.
I have 8 HDD of 20To using ZFS on 1 volume but Plex is installed on the SSD 1To NVMe.

recommend stopping PMS.

From the QuTS command line, run my DB tool.

The looks of you database activity – I suspect it’s splattered up pretty badly
