Plex Media Server stopping randomly

Player Version#: 1.32.4.7195 installed from APP Center
Hi, my PMS is crashing randomly like app is running on app center but Plex is down.
Sometimes I have to go on SSH to kill PMS because even if I stop PMS app on APP Center it doesn’t kill it (I use theses commands : “ps -ef | grep -I plex” & “sudo kill -9 PID” then restart from APP Center.
I don’t know where to check the logs of that because on Plex Media Server.log I don’t really see any problem except the cut of the logs when PMS crashed…

I use some apps on docker like Sonarr V4, Overseerr, qBittorrent (2 instances of it), Radarr, Wizarr, Prowlarr, Jackett, xTeve and Deluge.
last things I’ve changed is the second instance of qBittorrent I’ve added and using the Sonarr V4 version and now got some crash on PMS but I don’t think it’s coming from here like they do not interact directly and they’re not using the same ports.

Do the following:

  1. Make certain DEBUG logging is enabled (the default)

  2. Make certain VERBOSE logging is disabled (also the default)
    – Settings - Server - General - Show Advanced

  3. Next time it stops / fails – Restart it

  4. Wait about 3 minutes for it to come back up and stabilize

  5. Settings - Server - Troubleshooting (lower left corner) - Download Logs

  6. it will give you a ZIP file

  7. Attach that ZIP file here and we’ll look at it.

Yes me too lately since the last update it crashes for no reason, the server is running but is not accessible. Same for the problem of ASS/SSA subtitles, since the last update impossible to read them without a conversion, even with the settings on “Inlay subtitles: only image formats”. The last crash was yesterday afternoon.

Update: I realize that it is when I use the shield tv or my oppo phone that it no longer works.

Updated to latest version of Plex, same problem.
I had another problem with database (idk if this problem was here before), I corrected the problem with it using this link : https://support.plex.tv/articles/repair-a-corrupted-database/

The problem still here.

Any news here ?

When database is optimizing server isn’t available but the problem is it will not up automatically, I need to restart it manually (let him do his job for 2 hours and still not up without a manual restart).
So I think there is an issue with DB that makes my server crash, any more help about this ?

Have you used my tool (PlexDBRepair) to see if it can do anything ?

Worst case scenario would be –

  1. The DB is indeed damaged somewhere deep where it’s not detected.
  2. We move the DB to someplace safe (temporarily) like /share/Public
  3. We setup a new server instance
  4. We import the watch history from the old server database (sitting in /share/Public)
  5. After confirming everything recreated – delete the old server data

Do the people invited on my actuel server will be moved too or I’ll need to invite them again ?

  • I already tried to repair the DB using official Plex doc but without success apparently, will try that.

How it all works:

  1. Preferences.xml contains “ID” settings (MachineID, ProcessedMachineID, etc etc)

  2. This is what gives the server it’s unique identity but also how Plex.tv tracks it.

  3. If you
    – COPY (make a backup of) Preferences.xml
    – SAVE the existing DB somewhere
    – CREATE a new server (with goofy non-colliding temp name)
    – ADD the media again
    – STOP PMS
    – IMPORT the watch history
    – COPY the saved Preferences.xml ON TOP OF the new Preferences.xml
    ( Confirm permissions are 100% correct)
    – START PMS

  4. They’ll never know anything happened except for it being down for a while.

See how it works?

Ok I used your tool on my server, I’ll tell you if problem still here (very usefull tool and more practical that Plex Official tutorial lol).
For info :
Your tool doesn’t have detected anything wrong on my Server but Blob export/check/import was very long (vaccuum too).
I’ve used the automatic option + vaccum.

I now have a problem on the server, he do not update any metadata and don’t want to search or associate content to the right name :

Same problem for all contents, here it’s a movie but there are plenty other movies that were previously associated and now not.

Can you please make certain DEBUG logging is enabled,
Add new media (something simple which PMS will try to get metadata for)
Scan Files

Wait for it all to finish

Download the logs ZIP file

Attach it here for me please.

Now getting worse here can’t even play something on Plex DB locked even after reboot of my NAS and relaunching the app properly and forcing (ps -ef | grep -i plex & sudo kill -9 PID).

For the Metadata update, I changed my DNS from ISP to Cloudflare and now seems to work properly.

If you’re on Comcast, they are making a lot of changes.

They changed a lot of things for me. Started last week and still not done.

I have a lot of interruptions until I bypassed their DNS, etc

Ok not working again for no reasons even with DNS changed or not.
I’m in France so not using Comcast, I use the ISP named “Free” :

Stil got the DB Lock at launch of PMS for like 20 minuts and sometimes randomly and when metadata is off, DB Lock too, same message on console.

There is definitely a problem with DB is it possible to repair or re-create one without loosing people invited to my server ?
Or idk because my PMS is like really really instable and not even usable.

Do you have a PlexData shared folder defined?
If so, this is easily done through FileStation

I juts installed the Plex Media Server throught the App Center of QNAP so I didn’t defined the PlexData but maybe I can find it on PMS folders just like I’ve done with DB saving ?

I have to go to my cardio rehab / PT session.
