Plex Media Server update 1.18.7.2438 hanging

had a similar issue a of this morning after 24hrs on pms 1.18 mac os 10.13.

Installed pms 1.16 & re adding all media. Currently getting an “there was an unexpected error loading dashboard”. Any suggestions?

Downgraded to version 1.18.6.2368 from 1.18.7.2438 by removing plex entirely and installing prior version. Plex seems to be stable again and all libraries load immediately.

same thing here. Found an old version and everything works again.

A word of caution. Once reinstalled 1.18.6, a message at the top of the page telling me that there is an upgrade available. There an option to skip this version. Initially I didn’t respond to either and figured it would just remain that way, and once a fix was worked out, I could upgrade.

That was a mistake. Today the application chose to do the upgrade without me telling it to to it. So I reinstalled 1.18.6 again. Ran the app, and this time opted to skip this upgrade. I also went into settings, and found some references to turning off auto updates. Don’t have that info at hand, so you might want to check that out yourself.

So bottom line is to make sure you prevent the upgrade from happening auto-pilot.

Hm. 1.18.7.2438 is my introduction to the world of Plex. All kinds of problems associated with this. At the moment I am trying to get the desktop (offline) app to work on my PC, but it is not even launching, after several repairs and reinstalls. I suspect a corrupted library somewhere.

Welcome to Plex, are you MacOS user or windows?

Thank you. There appears to be an issue with loading of iTunes library into Plex. This is being referred to the development team

Welcome. Unfortunately this not a good update (they happen from time to time). If you’re on macOS try the previous release for macOS 1.18.6.2368-97add474d.

Other downloads for 1.18.6.2368-97add474d
FreeBSD
Ubuntu/Debian
RedHat/Fedora/SUSE
Windows

You may want to consider putting Plex Media Server on a box that will always be online if you haven’t already done so.

HELLO FROM BRAZIL MAN

Yes this update has several problems, one of them is the error on android phones that sometimes does not even play the video

I also had problems with my smart tv, here in the forum several users are reporting several problems after this update.

So far I have only seen one cause for hangs and that follows an error when attempting to load an iTunes Library into Plex. This is not Mac specific as the iTunes library could be loaded into Plex Media Server running on other platforms.

For anyone else without an iTunes Library to load into Plex and getting hangs on 1.18.7.2438, please provide server logs so the issue can be looked into

I’m not loading an iTunes library, but Plex v1.18.7.2438 hangs for almost everything I try. I’ve rolled back the previous version, but I’ll reinstall 1.18.7.2438 and extract debugging info when there’s no other activity on the server.

Thanks for looking into this. iTunes version is 12.9.5 with iTunes Library XML file sharing enabled.

On a sidenote, I can see in the Plex logs iTunes playlists are being loaded but these do not appear in the UI.

The process of setting the iTunes media failed and appears to have led to the lockout after - would need to wait for that to get fixed and then see if all is ok with the iTunes data

Thanks turfex. I, along with everyone else, had the same issue and I thought it was me. Hopefully, Plex will take care of this for many of us are Plex Passers.

I am having this issue too. Hope the fix is available soon

On a another thread, @CWallace reposted on how to download official older versions. To determine the previous version you used last on macOS check the second highest revison numbered folder either in:

~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Updates

or

~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Crash Reports

In Finder’s Go menu, select Go To Folder… then enter one of the above in the dialog box that pops up.

If you’re using FreeBSD, you can also download older versions from pkg and ports. Details available from FreshPorts:

@camthecameraman can you please upload logs if possible.

Hi All,

Please add me to the list of issues :frowning:
Version: 1.18.7.2438-f342a5a43
Windows 10 64bit Server

Issues:

  • Typically at loading a show it will buffer and buffer for quite sometime and then play
  • After the buffering issues, the show will randomly artifact, which then results in the system buffering again, sometimes with success of it continue with the play, other times it just locks up with the buffering message
  • At times due to combined buffering and artifact that takes place, it will fast forward the show by up to 15 minutes, even though I never watched that much of it

Tried everything humanly possible today, including going back to a previous version, which turns out is way too old, and that one had the constant buffer error showing, there was nothing I could do to remove that message.

Also tried repairing it, but that seems to do very little if anything at all.

This update is riddled with problem, even any DLNA applications that can read the files off the server fail with the same issue, which tells me it is the server side of the system causing the problem.

This has happened before, not just once but twice and it required pretty quick updates by the Plex team, it would seem this buffer and artifact bug has been reintroduced again :sob: :sob: :sob: :sob:

I hope the plex team can resolve this one quickly, I have a very unhappy family with me again LOL

Cheers,

David.

@davidtrad is this Windows 10 or actual Windows Server 2016 / 2019? Also if Windows 10, what update version 1909/1903? I’ve seen weird bugs depending on the release.

Please post logs as well then try rolling back to the 1.18.6.2368 update . Refer to my post above for links. Alternatively you could perform a System Restore then upgrade to a working release.
