Plex Media Server Update for Terramaster TOS 5

I enjoy the TOS 5.0 graphical user interface but at times I feel as if it is still beta code with the weekly TOS 5.0 updates.

With all the TOS 5.0 updates only one update was smooth as far as the Plex Server goes because most of the time, I’m unable to start the Plex service after a TOS 5.0 update unless I uninstall the Plex application and reinstall it first. TerraMaster Support tells me that they are unable to duplicate this problem in their test lab. Once I reinstall the Plex application, it appears to work fine for me until the next TOS 5.0 update.

I don’t experience the same issue. After every TOS update my Plex server runs properly

So it seems that Plex Team is still not providing the correct Plex Server update for TOS 5.0.

Still Need OutKastm

Other Operating Systems are installing without a problem.

Other OSes

I just updated this last night. What’s changed since last night?

Another Update

I still have to depend on OutKastM on the TerraMaster Forum for an update .tpk file that actually works for TOS 5.0.

The Plex Server update for TOS 5.0 still doesn’t work.

Is the site below the only place we can go to get Plex Server updates for TOS 5.0?
Apps – TerraMaster Community Place (tmnascommunity.eu)

Full disclosure that this won’t help with your current problem.

I was unhappy with Terramaster’s OS (x64 model). I eventually took it apart, added some RAM, then replaced the USB boot with Unraid, and I’m approximately 1,000 times happier with it now. Unfortunately, you can’t just transition your current data over, you’d need to manually copy it to a staging location, format the new system, then copy it back. Once I moved to Unraid, the dockerized PMS worked perfectly, including Intel hardware acceleration. Your mileage may vary, of course.

This is just meant as a data point if you get truly frustrated. There are instructions online to convert your Terramaster to Unraid (and TrueNAS I believe), both in text and video. The only limitation is that you should go into the BIOS and manually set the chassis fan to run, since the OS doesn’t always handle that well.

@chuckpa Does plex support TOS 5?

I don’t work on Terramaster. I’ve sent message to my team mate who does.
I’ll let everyone know what he says.

Thanks, knew you work on the syno, so was taking a guess. At least we can get these users some answer.

I handle Syno, QNAP, Linux (workstation and server).
I understand ASUSTOR.
I help with the other linux-based systems but have never touched Terramaster.

TOS 5.0 users are still having to depend on TerraMaster to provide updates to the Plex Media Server because all of the updates provided by Plex are for TOS 4.0.

TerraMaster Community Place

I see that there’s a Plex Media Server update.

Will this update that is provided by Plex work on TOS 5.0?

Update Fix

I think I just found the answer to my question.

The update file that is provided by Plex does not work with TOS 5.0.

Plex Warning

I guess TerraMaster will no longer be giving away free Plex Media Server updates.

We are now depending on Plex to provide the correct downloads for TOS 5.0.

No Longer Free

Just a Note: The Plex Media Server updates that were once provided by TerraMaster for TOS 5.0 is no longer free. The Plex Media Server updates provided by Plex will only work on TOS 4.0.

Therefore, if you run a Plex Media Server on a TerraMaster NAS that uses TOS 5.0, you will have to buy a subscription if you want to keep your Plex Media Server software up-to-date. Else, your Plex server software will have to remain unpatched until Plex starts providing updates for TOS 5.0.

Just noticed they moved to a payed subscription as well. I lucked out in that I got to download one version of Plex for TOS5 before the pay wall, but this is extremely frustrating not having a clear update path. Paying almost as much for an HBO subscription as it is to keep my server updated isn’t a good look. I can only imaged how pissed someone upgrading to TOS5 now is going to be.
