Server Version#: 1.18.5.2309
Player Version#: 4.22.1
Media is stored on a hard drive connected directly to my computer. Since the outages yesterday (Feb 6), I have not been able to load the Plex Media Server from my desktop and it also doesn’t recognize my desktop as a valid server anymore and as a result, I can’t access any of my media. It doesn’t work on my phone (Android), smartTV, or my laptop. Really frustrating. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I’ve already restarted my computer and disconnected/reconnected my external hard drive.
I did try signing out and in again, but that didnt work. However, I did uninstall the plex media server and redownload it on my computer. It had to rebuild my library, which was a nuisance, but it did seem to solve the problem!
Apple TV client just spins indefinitely on the Home tab, and on the library tabs under Home it spins for a few seconds and then says it can’t connect to the server.
Windows 10 client says it’s “unable to connect securely” to the server, but I don’t buy that. Seems like a red herring.
I installed v1.18.5 of the server on my QNAP NAS 6 days ago. Before that, on previous versions, this had never happened.
I have tried stopping and then restarting the server on the QNAP NAS, but the problem persists.
The problem did NOT start as soon as I upgraded the Plex Server version. It worked fine for a few days, and then this started happening.
I stalled the latest version tonight and was shut out of my server. Login would not work. I found an older version and installed that. I am now back up and running so something is borked in the latest release.
Thanks @SE56, but I run Plex Server on a QNAP NAS, and I update it manually from my Windows desktop via a browser.
I didn’t think to save old versions because I thought they’d be available on the Plex site somewhere. Given that sometimes a Plex Server update can break things like this, it would be really nice of Plex to provide a release archive site.
I dug through my deleted files, and found the previous 1.18.2.2029, the last one before this bug. I installed it, but the bug still isn’t going away, so it seems to be sticky.
Good to know that @kgoellner was able to get it working by reinstalling cleanly and rebuilding the library, but I have many libraries and a user for each person in the family, so it would be a pain to rebuild everything. I’d rather wait for a fix.
FIXED! (At least for me. Not sure if this is the same root cause as everyone else.)
After downgrading PMS to 1.18.2.2029, I checked Plex Media Server.log, and found this at the bottom:
Feb 08, 2020 09:27:43.507 [0x7f6b9d394740] DEBUG - HttpServer: Listening on IPv6 as well as IPv4.
Feb 08, 2020 09:27:43.508 [0x7f6b9d394740] ERROR - HttpServer: Error binding acceptor: Address already in use
Feb 08, 2020 09:27:43.508 [0x7f6b9d394740] ERROR - HttpServer: Error opening acceptor on IPv6, falling back to IPv4: Address already in use
Feb 08, 2020 09:27:43.508 [0x7f6b9d394740] ERROR - HttpServer: Error binding acceptor: Address already in use
Feb 08, 2020 09:27:43.508 [0x7f6b9d394740] ERROR - Error: Unable to set up server: listen: Address already in use (N5boost10wrapexceptINS_6system12system_errorEEE)
So I rebooted my NAS, and that did the trick. No more port binding errors, and all clients were then able to connect to the server.
I then upgraded PMS to the latest 1.18.6.2368, and this time it went smoothly, without any issue afterwards.
I’m not sure if the downgrade actually contributed anything to the fix. It may be that a simple reboot of the NAS, without the PMS downgrade, would’ve also resolved the issue. I’m not sure whether the issue was port binding errors originally, as I only checked the logs after the downgrade.
Likely a specific to my situation, but might help others out…
I had tried all the standard troubleshooting steps, logging out and back in, restarting, reinstalling, etc, and still had no luck.
Then macOS had an update, and I performed it, and when the ~1/2hr update was complete, and the computer was back up, I tried to launch PMS again. I heard the external spin up, and the rMBP made the motions of crunching numbers, but the PMS never reappeared in my browser. It did, however, populate a couple of entries in Activity Monitor. This has not happened before; when I attempted to restart it before, it was just like nothing was happening.
I manually browsed to the Account page from history (didn’t re-clear cookies and such before installing the macOS update), and I was able to browse through the options, and it was now no longer giving me the error of my content//server being unavailable.
I went to my AppleTV, launched the app, and my Home page was populated again. However, individual libraries//folders//collections were not found. It was telling me that there was nothing available due to the filters selected, despite there being no filters set. I set a filter, cleared it, and still nothing. I then refreshed the library from the three dots on the page, and content was back.
Seems to be working again, but I haven’t chanced closing it out or restarting it yet…
