Plex Media Server refuses to load

Server Version#: 1.23.1
Player Version#: 2.58.0.1076-38e019da

I was running Plex Media server version 1.22.3 and recently notices extremely high CPU usage and the Max eventually froze and I had to restart.

Since the restart, Media Server will not load. I t usually auto loaded on startup. When I try to manually start it, I can see the icon flash for a second in the top status bar and it disappears.

I went to the Plex site and noticed there was a newer version (1.23.1). I downloaded and replaced the older one in the Apps folder, but I am still having the same issue.

I would try the following:

Add the following as a Bookmark in a Browser.

https://app.plex.tv/desktop

If that works you can use a non default Browser and have it as a homepage and forget about the menu bar Chevon Open Plex.

This is an update:

That takes me into plex, but my named server is not accessible. I removed all old devices and also the server device.

when I try to access my media, it said get plex media server. and its a loop from here.

the zip file downloads, I clkick on it, it unzips and I can run the server:

… its from the web, are you sure … do you want to move to application folder, yes.

and it’s the same thing all over.

I am able to access my physical media on the external drive and can use the files individually. I have also run first aid on the drive and it checks out ok.

Thank you

I believe you have one choice to rid these gremlins. Follow the instructions exactly, especially the Go menu part.

Re install Plex

Thank you for your reply. I don’t mind completely uninstalling and reinstalling my plex as the metadata can be recreated.

The instructions you referred to are specific to Windows. Are there Mac instructions or should I just try and “translate”? I sm not sure about how I would go about making the registry changes on a mac.

Scroll down.

By the way what version of MacOS are you running? Mavericks or newer and your ok…
