Plex Media Server won't start initial setup

Hi,

I have been having an issue that is starting to wrack my brain a little. I’m probably missing something rather obvious, but I’ve searched high and low and can’t seem to find an answer.

I am currently running a Plex Media Server in a Freenas (11.2) jail. This type of jail, however, has become deprecated recently with some new releases of FreeNas, and is only available through the legacy UI. I also don’t know how long these will be supported for.

This was a trigger for me to migrate my Plex Media Server to a new jail, supported in the latest update.

I decided that I may as well start fresh, so I did a clean plugin install. Nice and simple.

However, when I go to the web interface in order to configure the new server (directly to newipaddress:32400/web), I get the login prompt for Plex. I login and it proceeds to start looking for the other Plex server I already shut down.

When I force a setup (by going to newipaddress:32400/web/index.html#!/setup), it tells me that I don’t have any media servers yet.

By this point I have disconnected the old server from my account, I have removed the old plex servers files entirely (after backing it up), removed all firewall rules, reinstalled the plugin several times, installed it by hand several times and removed the Preferences.xml file.
I think a key thing I have noticed here is that it also doesn’t appear to rebuild it’s Preferences file, leading me to believe he is getting it’s settings elsewhere (that I can’t find for the life of me).
Yet every time I go to the new server, it starts looking for the old server and tells me that I don’t have a Media Server installed yet.

Whenever I restore the old server and I log in, it immediately finds the server for me to claim. If I force a setup on this one, I can do so without a problem.
This all happens when I log in on the new server, the old server or the app (except the forced setup, of course).

Can someone help me out with this, before I toss this machine off a building?

Also, let me know what logs I should provide. Have been going through them myself, but haven’t found anything useful yet.

Just a thought, do the servers have different names???

They are running on the same server, but in different jails.

Old one is called plexmediaserver_1 and the new one is simply called plex.
They also have different IP addresses and, for all intents and purposes, are different entities.

I also wondered if they may be looking at each other preferences, which is what prompted me to delete everything on the old one, to no avail.

I am having similar issues although I cannot install plexmediaserver at ALL on Freenas 11.2. Do any of you have any advice? I am getting the same “Looking for server” indefinitely.

I have installed Freenas 11.2 from scratch but for some reason the plex server is running according to Freenas, but I cannot get the server to be detected. I have no firewalls, nothing. There must be something I am overlooking here as nobody else seems to have this problem. There are no old Freenas plugins running at all.

This is so frustrating as I am following the tutorials to a tee and not doing anything out of the ordinary. Everything worked peachy keen on 11.1.

My network drive is showing up on Freenas so I know my router is not blocking anything.

I am debating to go over to Emby over this. Grrrr.

To everyone still looking, this is what did the trick for me:

I completely goofed on the netmask and made it a /32. Worked on all of the other jails, because they don’t have a built in security that doesn’t allow installs from other subnets.

Hope this helps anyone else in here as well!
