Plex Media Server - XBoxOne pauses whilst streaming and then ok later on

So I am having an absolute nightmare here…

Basically I can be watching something through any client (Xbox/Smart TV App/iOS), it willl randomly just stop playing and I’ll have to close the whole application down, open it up again and play the movie/tv show again.
I just can’t put my finger on what is causing this issue…

It is completely random as well, as it could happen 20 minutes in to a film, or like last night it happened with 20 minutes to go.

My CPU/Network are both fast enough to cope with the streams and Plex is still running on the computer so it’s not crashing as such. My cousins, who use my server as well, have reported the same thing to me.

Any ideas whatsoever would be greatly appreciated, I am loving Plex but this has become so tedious…
I have learnt to live with it, but it really would be nice to have it working without these problems as it is meant to.

I have attached the logs.

We need to establish if the plex media server process is crashing in Windows or it is actually still running but streaming stops.

If it is crashing we will need you to upload the crash dmp file and associated Plex Media Server.log.

If it is not crashing then will need you to upload the Plex Media Server.log to see what issues are logged

In either case, you need first to enable Debug Lggingon the Plex Media Server. See the Reporting Issues with Plex Media Server support page for that. Link below

After you enable logging, restart the Plex media server (exit / wait for all processes to terminate and green re launch) - this will ensure new log files are generated,

Now try and reproduce the problem
When the crash happens look at Windows task manager process view to see if the Plex media server.exe has disappeared. Also the system tray Plex icon would disappear as well in the event of a crash. Look at folder
C:\Users\xxxxxxx\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Crash Reports
Folder fir a dmp file. Dmp files need to be zipped before they can be uploaded here
Then look for the log file
Plex Media Server.log
it would be in folder
C:\Users\xxxxxxx\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Logs
Attach that and zip of dmp if any
Also info on time of problem and what was being streamed and to what Plex client app

https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201643703-Reporting-issues-with-Plex-Media-Server

I have no crash logs at all, the folder is empty, I have attached one log, here is another from last night when I was watching a movie.

It makes no difference what client I am using and the Plex app is still running under processes, it never actually closes on the server.

Any ideas?

Sorry - I did start looking and then got distracted. As you mentioned not really a crash - just streaming / transcoding media issues I believe . If it is reproduce then best is to follow the original advice which is to restart the server to get fresh logs created and then just use the plex media server to reproduce this issue and capture the logs. That way we get a log covering the launch period and the failure during stream for. Also media info XML

I am having a crash issue as well, only I am running Debian. I checked but /var/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Crash Reports/ is an empty directory.

I see this is your first post. I am afraid you are in the wrong forum / topic.

This is a Windows Plex Media Server forum - not linux.
Although this forum topic has the word crash in it - it is not a crash and the posts above state that it is not a crash

Your log file does show a crash having been produced

Feb 23, 2016 07:43:35 [0x7fdd70ffd700] DEBUG - Crash Reporter: Uploading crash report /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Crash Reports/processing_2260/10384fd8-f072-c42c-5d54d21a-21c26f60-v-0.9.15.5.1712-ba5070a.dmp

These crash dmp files get purged when the server is restarted - so when it crashes - make sure you do not start the server until you secured the evidence. The evidence being a zip of the dmp file and the Plex Media Server.log
Once the logs and dmp are secured and saved then you can restart the server

Your log file has this near the end of the log
Feb 23, 2016 09:58:51 [0x7fdd5b7fe700] ERROR - [Notify] Error while reading inotify fd (4)
which suggest that it might be the problem reported on ReadyNAS here https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1078043
This is currently with the development team. It is a crash seen to arise when streaming to Playstation / iOS
It has been reported on a number of platforms and is awaiting a change in how the binaries are produced.

I have been looking at the log file from the 17th February.
I can see you were streaming Creed to XboxOne from 21:40 to 21:49 when the XBoxOne reported to the server that playback got paused. Streaming was through a public IP address 109.154.38.185 - a remote XBoxOne?
Playback to this XBoxOne resumed at 21:59:43.

Is it the pausing here that is the problem you are reporting here? Or did you pause it ? and resume ?

When reporting issues it would help a lot when information is given to say when the issue arose, what was being streamed and to what
And as mentioned earlier - if a problem is repeatable it is best to start after restarting the server so that one gets full logs including the startup sequence

Sorry for the slow reply ,works been busy lately. Yes that was when it paused.

It pauses then after roughly 1-2 minutes it’s absolutely fine again. I just can’t get my head round it…

I am going to change the title of this topic to reflect what you just confirmed the problem to be. I will also move the topic to the Xbox plex app forum for initial investigation

You did not confirm if this Xbox is remote or local and if the problems only relate to remote plex connections

Okay thanks, however this isn’t a problem unique to my Xbox, this happens on my Sony Smart TV app, my PS4, my cousins Apple TV, My iPhone…

Ok we need more examples of the problem : logs. What we have so far just showed that the XBox reported to the server that play was paused. There was no other information to go on.

So we can switch to getting diagnostics for the iPhone and need to establish if issue happens only when remote through remote wifi / cellular or local wifi as well and need diagnostic logs and you can get from both starting test after restart of the server.

I am having the EXACT same problem.

So frusterating. Going to try connecting the LAN cable. See if that works.
