Plex media won't play

Server Version#: Version 1.18.3.2129

Neither the PMS on my windows machine or the one on my shield is able to access media. I get various errors depending on if using appleTV or the web interface on the server. On the Apple TV, I get a transcoder failed error, on the server I get the error that the media may have moved.

I am using mapped drives in Windows and a mounted disk in the shield. The shares are on my router’s USB port.

When using the info button, the correct path to my media is shown. I can browse there from windows.
When adding media, it appears in the newly added, as it should.
The problem is only playing it.
I also can’t see the mapped drive when trying to add folders to the library.
UNC paths also don’t work.
Everything but plus is able to access the files, and plex sees folder updates.

I reinstalled PMS and rebooted.
Not sure what else to try.

Is the owner(user name) of the files the same on all three devices. Is this the same name(account) that you are mounting the device with?

The owner on the files is the NAS admin account. everyone has access to the drive as far as permissions, and I’m mounting with a admin user on windows, and whatever the default user is in shield. This all was working a few days ago, and had been running for years, so I’m not sure if an update broke it or my router is all the sudden broken in a way that’s affecting sharing. I’m leaning toward the router because I am pretty sure the shield PMS NEVER updates and is running on a version that is before the ability to see ram and CPU usage in the dashboard, it’s just weird that everything else seems to work, except plex playing the media and seeing the drive letters.

Need your logs, Debug(Not Verbose) which you can get from https://app.plex.tv/web Settings>Troubleshooting>Download Logs.

I don’t have debug turned on, but I have the logs.Plex Media Server Logs_2019-12-11_13-24-37.zip (519.9 KB)

So, quick update, I installed PMS on an iMac at home with the same libraries and things are working on that server.

Still no joy on the Windows box. I have enabled debug logging, should I restart the server and recapture the logs, or will it just start populating?

Logs will start populating.
Drive Y and Z are not accessible by the server. Additionally the Plex database files were having issues so I don’t think the reinstall was successful.

So how do I fix the data base and make the drives accessible to the server? Also, it’s weird that the server sees new files but doesn’t have access to them, right?

Keep in mind that for Windows, the drives need to be accessible to Windows before Plex Media Server can be loaded. Just restarting PMS should fix that if you can see the drives now. If you are starting PMS automatically at startup, ie as a service, you’ll need to add a delay to the PMS start to prevent this in the future.

I’ve restarted it a bunch of times and it still doesn’t work.

Also, I’ve had it work before when the drives were connected after plex started so this is all new behavior and even when the drives are visible to windows it’s not working. Maybe I just need to do a complete windows refresh.
