I asked this question on reddit, but we did not find a solution yet, seems like there might be an error somewhere in the Plex “metaverse”, or some such thing.

There is a show that matches correctly on a series level, but not on an episode level.
On tmdb\thetvdb, for the show “Travel Man: 48 hours in…” you can see the following on the website:
Season 1: 4 episodes (Barcelone, Istanbul, Iceland, Marrakech) Season 2: 8 episodes (Vienna, Paris, Copenhagen, Moscow, Seville, Venice, Dubai, Berlin) Season 3: 4 episodes (New York, Helsinki, Lisbon, Naples) Etc...
Pulling this metadata with something like Filebot gives the same result for airdate\dvd\absolute ordering on both thetvdb and tmdb.
(Although only Airdate order seems to be defined on the websites)
However, in Plex, this is what it claims the metadata from thetvdb\tmdb says:
Season 1: 4 episodes (Barcelone, Istanbul, Iceland, Marrakech) Season 2: 8 episodes (Vienna, Paris, Copenhagen, Moscow, Seville, Venice, Dubai, Berlin) Season 3: 4 episodes (Seville, Venice, Dubai, Berlin) Season 4: 4 episodes (New York, Helsinki, Lisbon, Naples) Etc...
The result is that S02E05 (Seville) is detected as an “unknown” episode (Or rather, it has a different naming scheme in the plex library)
While S03E01 (New York) is detected as Seville.
Maybe the issue is better defined as “Second half of season 2 is listed twice”
You can see the same issue directly here in Plex’ own library browser with season 2 and 3. With subsequent seasons being shifted by one:

Here S03E01 says “Seville”, but the thumbnail is from the “New York” episode, which is what “should” be S03E01.
I do not think naming schemes are relevant in this context, since the issue is metadata pulled by plex being wrong, not the matching itself.
But for the curious, my two examples are:

Working around this is ofc. possible by renaming the episodes completely. But that doesn’t really solve the root issue. And if Plex suddenly did pull the correct info one day, then it would probably break again.
Can someone correct this metadata issue? I’m also confused why manually choosing thetvdb\tmdb does not override. But the root issue is in Plex seemingly pulling incorrect data from somewhere else before it reaches my server, so I suppose that’s more important to fix.
