I’m finding that I have several TV episodes that are being recognized incorrectly by Plex. I’ve double-checked the naming of the file and it’s all correct according to IMDB.com but the wrong metadata appears to be getting pulled.
For example, I have file name “ShowName/Season 04/ShowName – s04e25”, but the metadata including artwork, episode title, etc. is for episode 40. Anybody know what’s going on and how to fix it?
Plex matches TV shows against TheTVDB, https://www.thetvdb.com/. Looks like you have naming correct, but double check against TheTVDB just to be sure.
In PMS Settings -> Agents -> Shows, make sure TheTVDB is at the top of the list for both “TheTVDB” and “The Movie Database”. If it is not, drag it to the top of the list.
Check the metadata in the files, especially if using mp4 container. If the metadata is wrong then Plex my incorrectly match things. For example, in an mp4 container, you can set metadata for season & episode. If the metadata says Season 04, Episode 40, then Plex may incorrectly match it even if file name is correct, “ShowName - s04e25.mp4.” MediaInfo is a useful tool for viewing metadata and other information about media files.
You can also try putting the year in the show name, both folder & episode. This is especially helpful if the show has had several versions or reboots (Dr. Who, The Twilight Zone, etc).
After making changes, re-scan the library (or at least the show), then refresh the metadata.
Thank you, this was exactly it. The season/episode listings on TheTVDB were different from IMDB. Once I made them match TheTVDB and refreshed, everything was correct! Crazy how IMDB is off by so much, most were just wrong episode numbers but a few were the completely wrong season.
