@vames212 Thanks for the heads-up, I’ve informed the right people about the text on the website.
Thank you for the information. I have to say I was a very satisfied Plex user before this change but now I have no reason to renew my Plex Pass subscription. A real shame.
If anyone knows of an app/software or music server which uses Gracenote “moods” metadata I would be very grateful. I’ve been searching for a while but they seem to be hiding from private customers…
Merci!
That’s a rather ambiguous statement. We all know Plex likes to keep upcoming features and updates “Top Secret,” but surely a simple yes or no to the simple, implied question. “Is something similar to Plex Mix included in the new music features?” is reasonable, and it can and should be answered.
I promise not to tell anyone, either way, if you can give us a real answer.
My two reasons for paying for a plex pass:
- remote access to my music library
- plex mix giving me a… mix(!)… of my music library based on a song I suddenly decided I liked
“Artist radio” gives me just that. Similar artists, not similar songs… And when the song I decided I like is not the most famous one… I get a lot of music that doesn’t really interest me.
When Plex no longer can give me “Plex Mix”… And if it is not coming back… I need to do some thinking.
A lot of services out there can give me access to my music library.

Some people on Reddit noticed this earlier in July.
Plex.tv will use the MusicBrainz data to match users’ personal music collections.
Who knows.
I’ve been bashing my head into my plex install trying to figure out where my premium library features went, and specifically where my plex mix went, since I use that all the time.
@drzoidberg33: how do I go about getting a refund for my now useless plex lifetime pass, since you’ve just quietly removed the only feature I was paying for, without any notification or replacement?
I tend to agree.
I only used Plex for getting access to MY files to listen to Plex Mix based on MY music.
I also had a Tidal subscription from a long time ago - just in case something happened with my music server (Yes, I am addicted to music).
And when “Plex with Tidal” arrived, I did connect Plex to Tidal. “Because I could”.
I have not been happy with Plex over the last few days.
But…
To be fair, I tested the “Artist Radio” over the weekend.
- It doesn’t distinguish between “my music” and “my Tidal music”. So “artist radio” will give me a lot of music from artists that I have not heard of (kind of cool) AND from artists that I HAVE heard of, but have selected NOT to have in my collection (not cool at all).
- Solution - Disconnect Tidal from Plex.
- Getting music based on “artist” instead of “song” is not good. I am way too much into “music moods” - and that doesn’t work at all.
I gave up on “playlists” after I found Plex Mix - because it was more fun with “system assisted random playlists based on song” than something I had spent time creating myself (letting me miss similar songs I would not have thought of). Now, I am not sure going back to “playlists” will be good enough. I know I have been lucky to have had the Plex Mix - but I am not able to do the “be grateful for the time we had” when I lose great functionality.
@plex_staff:
3. On a totally unrelated note, could you please fix the problem with Plex App in the background working just fine until you put another “sound app” in the foreground (like answering the phone) - and then you have to have the phone ON and Plex in the foreground to keep listening to music (Andoid App) (it seems the connection to the server is almost dropped) - the only solution is to kill the Plex app and restart it - then it play music without interruptions again.
Really thinking if it is worth it to keep the Plex subscription here. It seems like you are starting to be just another Tidal outlet - and Tidal does have it’s own app.
I did buy into the whole “magic” thing - and then you took the magic away.
For account related queries you can email plexpass@plex.tv.
Just a quick note that you can set this in the library settings, in Advanced you can uncheck “Include related TIDAL content”
Thx
One minor annoyance fixed.
Please bring back the magic too.
Yikes, y’all. Just getting caught up here.
Like many of you, I noticed that PlexMix was not showing in my menu but hadn’t been able to do anything about it until today.
Like many of you, music is the primary reason that I use Plex and purchased a Lifetime PlexPass. For years, it has been the one reliable service that allows me to access my library. The music player not having PlexMix is a major miss.
There’s some veiled language that @drzoidberg33 uses like
I’m not saying something similar might not return with the upcoming music updates
So I’m hopeful that that’s code for
hold tight friends, we’re working on something even cooler
but at this point, we just don’t know.
PlexMix is probably the primary feature that encouraged me to buy a PlexPass. Like the rest of you, I hope it and Moods comes back. Soon.
Wow. This was one of the main features that made me migrate my entire library from Subsonic to Plex. What is going at Plex HQ? Bait and switch tactics will only lose you customers, but I guess you already have my lifetime pass money, so shame on me, I guess?
Agreed, I do use it to play movies, but that is secondary to the music. The plex mix feature is by far the number one selling point to me as a customer. I did not do a lifetime pass, so if it is not back when renewal comes along, definitely not going to renew as I can’t see any features that having a plex pass provides.
So does anyone know of a good music media server that does provide a good ‘plex mix’ like feature? I will definitely switch for just that feature alone. I do not understand why they turned it off and disabled it in my current installation, rather than developing a new one in parallel so we could migrate over.
Plex folk, this is totally unacceptable and I have been loyal for quite a few years and have recommended Plex to many a folk… Please fix this ASAP!
I believe it may be related to the metadata provider switch which isn’t just about TV but also music…
The part that baffles me is that this has gone one for over a month and this “temporary” change has yet to be resolved. I agree with @Jengeno, as a software company you should never remove/change features this drastically until the new features are ready for the prime time. Let alone wait over a month to deliver.
Glad to finally understand what is going on. As many of you, plexmix is the main reason I got a Plex pass. Luckily I haven’t pulled the trigger on the life time pass yet. I’ve had to resort to Pandora my last couple of parties. . Really hope this option returns. No need to renew if it doesn’t.
just downgrade to 1.15.6.1079 and plex mix returns.
I’d be surprised if that still worked, given it relies on a metadata provider we no longer have access to. If it does, please let us know!
@DaveBinM and /or @drzoidberg33 – C’mon guys. Just tell us. Is Plex Mix a thing of the past , is it really just “temporarily” unavailable as your announcement states, is there a similar feature with the new metadata provider… ???
I used Plex Mix all of the time. Plex Radio just doesn’t compare and is not a substitute for many reasons.
Almost 2 months and still no communication
I’ve never seen anything like this before.
