I am trying to access the Plex Mix feature with my music but its not working.
My library was setup as premium.
On the iOS app, when I try to select it, it throws an error, i.e. Something went wrong while trying to create a Plex Mix for you…
On the web app, I don’t even see it in tracks or albums. When playing a track, I get the open to Queue a Plex Mix but the next song just continues with the same album.
I recently re-imported the library from my iTunes library which is very large, i.e. about 60,000 tracks. Wondering if that is the issue?
I am having the same issue too. It started acting up about 3 days ago for no reason. I have restarted my computer and refreshed my library several times with no luck. I guess I will try deleting the library and add it again and see what happens.
In my case, I suspect my iTunes library is causing the problem. I recently merged a couple of other libraries to it. I am cleaning that up now and then going to create a new iTunes library, remove and re-add the Music library on the Plex side to see if that improves things. Would really like this feature to work. Will post with my results likely later this week.
Exactly the same here. Lifetime pass subscriber, Plex Mix was working fine until a couple of days ago. Same as issue as jstephen. Can access Plex Mix option, but it just continues with the track list on the album. I have updated to the newest version, still doesn’t work. On my Android app, it just throws an error (Sorry there is no Plex mix available for this track) for anything I pick.
Same here.
Did all the “create new library” and stuff before thinking it could be an issue with Plex.
Would be nice if developers AKNed that they are aware of the issue and working on a fix or something.
I do have the latest version, and plex mix is not working.
But should I interpret this to mean “the plex mix will probably start working again after all these changes they are talking about have been fully implemented”
Ok so I did a bunch of cleanup on my iTunes library which was needed anyway, removed the Plex Music library, updated my Plex to latest version and created the music library again from scratch in Plex pointing to the cleaned up library.
First thing I noticed during the music library creation process in Plex was that I was not asked if I wanted to create basic or premium library like in the past. I assumed the newer software version assumes you want premium especially if you have plex pass.
Anyway, now there is no sign of any choice for Plex Mix, whether in the web app. or in my iOS app.
As one other person asked, given the recent announcement about making changes to music in Plex, is it just broken for now???
I read the response I got as “everything should be working fine if you are using the newest version of Plex”.
I do work in a software company, and we would never REMOVE an old feature in a new version stating “it will be much better after we make some changes in a while”… We KEEP the old feature until the new feature is ready (And then, if the new feature doesn’t work as intended, we either FIX it or do a ROLLBACK.)
But we may be unique in that…
The announcement regarding Plex Mix implies that it’s a temporary missing feature:
I understand that the two comments may not contradict each other. There might be a Plex Mix equivalent with the new improvements. I haven’t seen anything confirming that, though.
The various “Radio” features we can currently use are not an equivalent. The ability to use a particular track as the “seed” to generate a play list was a great feature. “Artist Radio” will create a good mix, but chances are, you will never hear the track you actually wanted to play.
I’ll be really disappointed if a Plex Mix of some sort is not available in the overhaul.
That also counts for me. Plex Mix is indeed a unique function with added value compared to the radios. I hope that Plex Mix (or similar functionality) returns in a next release.
I got very disappointed when I found out that my music library wasn’t being updated with Premium Music features, the track moods in particular.
What does it mean “the Plex Mix algorithm won’t be returning”. Doesn’t Plex have access to Gracenote database anymore?
I became a Plex Pass subscriber mainly because of the music moods. I think it’s a fantastic way to listen re-discover my collection and all my playlists where based on them. Would you please be able to tell me if and when the feature might return?
How can you justify taking away one of the most significant selling points of owning plex pass, sneakily remove it, then force a subscription model as a substitute and claim to be upgrading our experience “to eleven”… On top of it, you still advertise Plex Premium Music, playlist based on track and mood as a reason why to buy a Plex Pass. See attached
Moods is something that came from Gracenote and as we’re no longer using their metadata this won’t be coming back.
I’m not saying something similar might not return with the upcoming music updates, but the specific Plex Mix function cannot return exactly like it was as it was based of Gracenote metadata.
