Hello. Can the Plex Movie agent be configured to prioritize the theatrical release date (even if it’s a limited theatrical release) when it’s available for the movie such that it shows the year for this date as the release year in Plex? If not, can the Plex development team add this as a feature request?
This way, the capability exists such that Plex will automatically mirror the release year being displayed on the TMDB website (Plex Movie’s metadata source) without users having to manually edit the metadata for it to match.
Some of us use multiple software applications and having consistent metadata, especially for the release year, would be very helpful.
Currently, it appears that Plex might be taking the earliest release date availabe such as a private screening of a film but I believe the general consensus is that the theatrical release data is used if there is one.
An example of this can be seen for the movie “Terrifier” which shows the release year as 2018 on the TMDB website, but 2016 in Plex.
