Wrong release dates on Movies

It should be possible to configure what release date Plex should use more fine-grained?
In Agents -> Plex Movie and Movie Database, I have set country to UK.

Still the release dates are “wrong”. Most of them are same or close to the theatrical premiere day.

Geostorm
BluRay.com: 2018-02-08
Plex: 2017-10-13
Movie Database: 2017-10-13
themoviedb.org/search/movie?query=Geostorm
Release Information
October 20, 2017 Theatrical
January 2, 2018 Digital
Don’t know what the date 13/10/17 is, prior to the theatrical release.

It does not make sense to have theatrical release dates. Media is added to Plex after one gets the physical release (DVD, BluRay).
Who adds a theatrical movie to Plex.

The Movie Database have several different release dates, theatrical, digital, physical… It should be possible to choose which one of these is preferred in Plex when it gets the metadata.

I have changed some of my newest plex entries to match the release dates from bluray.com UK, They make much more sense.
However I don’t want to do this manully for every movie I add to my Plex. Its a huge task. Even more so if I do it for all my existing 1000+ movies.

Release dates in Plex are actually “Original Available”, and it is not availabel until one can purchase it either digital or physical.
It seems Plex is getting this information from The Movie Database.

it’s about when the movie was released… not when it was published in a certain media after lots of people have seen it.
makes perfect sense to me

edit: double-post

check imdb too http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1981128/?ref_=nv_sr_1 , release date is 2017 “20 October 2017 (UK)”

imdb will be always the correct source.

Released how?
In the news
In the theatre
For rental
For purchase

Seems The Movie Database theatrical release date is what Plex uses. That date is the first release date, as the movie does not exist prior to it.

Yes that is the theatrical release date in US/UK. It was though released prior to that in Asia on 12 October 2017 (Hong Kong).

what you see on IMDB, is the release date in cinemas

The Movie Database has several different release dates, premiere, theatrical, digital, physical.
Geostorm UK
Theatrical: 2017-10-20
Physical: 2018-02-19

Some might prefer something other than the cinematic release date. I for certain would want the physical release date.
Would have been great if this could be configured. The only thing that can be configured is Country. I reckon Plex fetches the earliest release dates for the selected country.
