Plex Movie agent is capturing metadata but posters are not displayed

Server Version#: 1.21.3.4046

I am hoping others have experienced this issue and there is either a simple solution or a known problem being worked on.

I recently started using the new Plex Movie agent, replacing the legacy one.

Ever since then I have had trouble cleanly capturing the metadata / poster for any movie added to the library. It will capture the movie information, actors etc just fine, however, the biggest annoyance is the poster will not display (img attached using the movie Crash as an example).

I click on Fix Match and it correctly identifies the movie, which I then click on and it acts as though it is updating but then does not display the poster.

I go to the edit movie option and click on Posters and can see all the various posters to select, if I select one, it will act as though it is going to display the selection but just redisplays a blank thumbnail.

I hope I am not the only one experiencing this and that there is a simple solution or reason for this problem.

Did you move your Plex data folder recently away from its default location on drive C: ?

If you did, check the file system of the new location. It must be NTFS.
It cannot be a Windows Storage Spaces volume or a drive that has been “pooled” with e.g. DrivePool software.

I have not moved my Plex data folder. To note, when this started happening end of last week, I went and uninstalled / reinstalled the PMS completely purging the Plex data folder before reinstalling, working on the basis if something had got corrupted a full rebuild of the data folder may help. When reinstalling I just allowed it to install without modifying any defaults.

Determined the solution. At some point one of the PMS updates must have entered host file entries for the imdb and tvdb URLs that were interfering. I noticed that in the logs everything was erroring out when it attempted to connect to them. I commented out the host file entries and everything fire d up perfectly again. I just wanted to post this in case others may get use from it.

PMS doesn’t manipulate the hosts file.
But some tool in the forums does. If you used this in the past, there’s the explanation. [How To] Bypass VPN for Plex
