I have a movie that keeps trying to grab the wrong release date (shows 2014-11-05, but its actual release date was 2012-04-13), but I’m not sure where it’s actually getting it from, since both IMDB & TMDB both have the correct dates for that. I also verified that it wasn’t somehow getting it from the sequel, but that had a release date of 2014-04-08.
Gosh, this has been driving me crazy, though. It especially badly affects slightly older international films in my experience. For example, the Fassbinder film Love is Colder Than Death (which is 1969) comes up via Plex Movie agent as 1/22/1979 (!). Checking imdb confirms this is merely the Danish release date, whereas the film’s festival and West German release were 1969/70. I dearly wish that the agent would defer to the earliest release date, since - particularly with international films - a film often enjoys a fully legit wide release in its country of origin years before it shows somewhere else. Grabbing the first random international date (which is hardly definitive via imdb as well) is just incorrect. Any reason why a film’s release date in its country of origin is not “good enough” for Plex…? Of a collection of 38 international films I added to Plex recently (spanning late 1960s to early 1980s), it got 21 of the years wrong. Not a fun prospect to manually correct these and tons of others…
