So i have been using plex for awhile. I have posters for most of the movies in my library. However, there are some movies that do not have a poster. But if I manually click “match” > search options > then search. Without changing anything it then finds the title and I click on it and the poster appears.
How do i force it to do this automatically and not this manual effort? What do I need to do?
There is a bug that affects Windows users who store all their movie files in the drive root (e.g. E:\My Movie.mp4) that may cause matching issues and is getting fixed in the next release.
Other than that your files could just be named incorrectly, an example of how one of the problem files is named would be useful.
Looks like plex prefers Title (year).ext for some files but Title YEAR works with other files. But the Title (year).ext naming convention pulls poster better but not 100%.
Can you provide the full path and file name for a movie which is not matching automatically with Title (year).ext naming? And where in that path does your movie library configuration point?
As fro your file name, you may have more success if you place everything which is not part of the title and year in side of square brackets:
Crip Camp (2020) [720p H.264].mkv
Plex should ignore everything within the square brackets. If you don’t do this, Plex could use that information as part of the search criteria resulting in a confidence level which is too low to produce a match.
