I find it very surprising that popular movies are not being match: Ei Olympus has fallen didn’t match, Judy didn’t match and now Emma 2020 didn’t match. What movie database is being used, since they are all ok on IMDB?
Naming & structure?
All three match on my system:
/A Movie Library
/Emma (2020)/Emma (2020).mkv
/Judy (2019)/Judy (2019).mkv
/Olympus Has Fallen (2013)/Olympus Has Fallen (2013).mkv
Also, be aware of this:
For the last 5 or 6 yrs, I have left the movie title be whatever was the title on the Disc and the folder the same with “space”"-"“year” added, and never had problems till recently. Those three did not match on my system. I’m in central Arizona, USA… Maybe the database that gets hit from here is a different one? and yes, I have a few that are not in English
Texas.
I’ve always used .../movie_name (year)/movie_name (year).ext
and never had matching problems. I use the name as shown in IMDB or TMDB.
One other thought. If you’re using MP4 container, check your agent settings (Settings → Agents → Movies). Make sure Local Media Assets is at the bottom of the enabled agents for Plex Movie and The Movie Database.
If LMA is at the top, Plex will read the embedded metadata from MP4 files. This can interfere with matching with the online databases.
Did that , but still didn’t match. It was at the top of both plex movies and movie database. But no prized. Yes, almost all are .mp4 except for real oldies which are .avi.
Plex is still at it, now “Marriage Story” won’t match. It IS on IMDB so which database is Plex using? Maybe one in Europe?
May I have your Log files ZIP (download from Settings - Server - Troubleshooting - Download Logs) ?
I think you might be a candidate for PMS 1.20.0 which has the new movie matching code / agent.
Would you believe? I have Version 1.19.4.2935, and I can’t find any server settings.
If you have no Settings - Server then it’s not recognizing that login name as the owner.
If that fails, you can always manually create a tar ball gzip or a ZIP of the Logs
directory and attach it.
Had to be on server itself. (debian)Plex Media Server Logs_2020-07-23_21-12-43.zip (4.2 MB)
It can’t get access to it / thinks it doesn’t exist.
File system corruption?

I will need dig deeper but you do have damaged media (there is a lot of this in your logs)

As FYI: That naming is pretty rough and you’d definitely be a candidate for PMS 1.20.0’s new movie matching once you get the file permissions / problem there sorted
All the errors except and maybe including Marriage Story was me changing the name to try to get it to match. The file system is a file server running on a Raspberrypi 3b and I just checked it, all seems fine. Running Raspbian stretch. I don’t know about the thumbnails though. but this Plex server has been moved back and forth as I updated the machine and moved it from another machine. I finally got Emma to match when I changed the name to “Emma.” The movies have always matched before just as it gets ripped from the DVD. I just add the date to the folder I put it in. Only been lately that I have the troubles with the matching.
Joe
Just put Bombshell on server…NO MATCH
Show me the name, exactly as it exists?
I will test here and debug
Did a search and told it to use the movie database and it finally match. Look like it defaults to Plex move database?
I need more information.
- Log files please?
- If you’ve installed the new PMS (Plex Pass beta), did you upgrade the library section?
yes, I updated, no, not beta. yes updated the Movies library.Plex Media Server Logs_2020-07-31_13-22-17.zip (2.7 MB)
As I said, I did a search in the match box and told it the movie database, and it showed up.
I can’t get FileBot to name my files in ALL CAPS with Underscores and No (YEAR) Field.
I also can’t seem to get anything but natural matches 'cause they all work perfectly and instantly.
What am I doing wrong?
1.19.4 still uses the old agent and monolithic multi-word titles may work but are NOT guaranteed. Saying “It’s always worked in the past” won’t cut it. It’s all been LUCK.
The standard is: Name (Year).ext
It allows for variations on that theme but “one_big_monolithic_file_name_because_I_dont_like_quote” doesn’t count.
Quotes for such things are required in all 3 OSes (Win, Mac, and Linux)
