By default, Plex operates a music agent called “Plex Music”:
- Plex Music: The default agent for music libraries. It pulls in data from a variety of sources, including best-in-class AllMusic and MusicBrainz data. Note: This is a special, advanced agent and does not appear under Settings > Server > Agents for configuration. It is the default option when creating a music library, though.
I added a blink-182 album to Plex.
Plex shows the artist as “Blink 182”. Neither AllMusic nor MusicBrainz offers this butchered name. I could fix the problem locally by using the web UI, but Plex will revert my changes during a future upgrade. My local metadata is correct, both in file/directory names and in tags. So what gives?
Plex developers, this feature request is for an information source display. “Fix Match” shows potential matches, so why not tell us where the data was pulled from?
Also, this wouldn’t be a problem if Plex didn’t ignore my enabled “Prefer local metadata” setting.
Edit:
Plex wasn’t ignoring local metadata, rather an older album was used to determine the artist name. I was troubleshooting the wrong album.
